What is you opinion on spur pinion combos for my wraiths and my SCX!0. I have researched like mad and even posted on the forum and I'm getting conflicting info. So I'm just trying to run it by people who know. I 'm just out to trail crawl and have fun on home made obsticals and rocks logs forest, maybe at most G6 with some all out running but just to get from challenging zone to challenging zone. little to no jumping or bashing. looking for smooth slow speeds and torque but with some wheel speed when needed.
I'm on the Tekin FXR brushed motor ESC combo 35t. for all four of my rigsThree wraiths for my kids and my scx10.
I have been steered toward the super shafty Wraith trans. A bit overkill but bomber. It comes with a 56t 32p metal RR spur that i am planning on pairing with an 11t 32p. Is that a good combo? Or is that for going fast and bashing?
If don't go with super shafty I will go back to stock with crawler inovations output upgrades. I have crawler inovations traxxis drive shafts for all my rigs as a way to beef up that area but still have a fuse in the drive train it is a cheap and easy replacement.
I have a stock SCX10 trans that I will beef up with the CI output kit and Drive shafts. I have no idea what to gear it as. Looking for moderate to cool temps.

Can you give me suggestions for where to start experimenting?

1. Wrath trans.
a) 32p spur & pinion combo

b) 48p spur & pinion combo

2. SCX10
a) 32p spur & pinion combo

b) 48p spur & pinion combo

Thanks much!"thumbsup"

I dont see any real benefit to switching to 32 pitch gears. I run 48 pitch in all my trucks with no issues. One of my wraiths is running pro 4 on 4 cell and 48 pitch has held up just fine.
Just my opinion!

48 pitch gears are fairly quiet

32 pitch gears are noisy

48p distributes the "load" over a larger area, but there is a greater chance of slipping/stripping because of the smaller size of the gears.

I run a mmp with a 13.5 tekin brushless and a 60 tooth 32 pitch spur and a 11tooth pinion. To me its the perfect ratio and the strength is there. Not very noisy at all and super smooth at low speeds

I'm running a 35t on 3s with modified 2.2 flat Irons and 20/81 48 pitch gears"thumbsup" crawls good good wheel speed and doesn't get hot. Also never stripped a spur. The 81 tooth has been on for over a year:shock:

I've run 3s lipo on my all 3 of my scx-10's for the last two years on 48p gears and see no reason to change. Maybe for a powerful brushless motor it'd be worth it, if nothing else for peace of mind. I also run 48p gears in my Wraith. The rest of the drivetrain is hardened steel. 3s power on that one going through a handwound 27T motor. I run slippers but crank them down. I like the gearing options with 48p, you can fine tune a little more.

I do run 32p gears in my Honcho but only because it has no gear cover. The larger gears can handle grass and other debris much better than the smaller 48p.

For gearing.. I like to stay conservative, easier on everything especially the motor. 48p, I'd start with 87/16 and go up/down from there depending on what you want out of it. My Wraith is geared 87/14 and the handwound 27T still has plenty of speed when I need it. With cheaper motors you'll probably have to gear up a little to get that same effect, but it's all compromise because you'll shorten the motor life and lose torque. Other thing is "volt up and gear down" which is a popular method around this forum. ;-)

Thanks all that answered this morning. I got a few more pieces of the puzzle together. Keep it coming!
