Suij's I'm on a budget rockfighter build.

I am actually considering swapping out the berg wheels now that I'm running the bully knuckle. I am getting a lot of steering scrub with them and the berg wheels. Once I sort some decent foams and make some knuckle weights I think I will make up some buggy wheels with vanquish hubs.

how are the traxass dogbones working for you. Haven't read much on pajeys thread.

The traxxas dogbones are holding up well. They are a fair bit beefier than the stock ones. It's just great having all the extra steering from the bully CVD's without worrying about popping out dogbones.

Also made up a super quick servo guard from a timber framing bracket I had lying around.

Also tried my hand at tire shaving. Nothing you can't do with a dremmel and a positive attitude!

Had a bit of spare time while at work for the last month. Thought I should try my hand at making some knuckle weights. Found some brass stock laying around so whipped up these. The small ones are 30g. The big ones are 50g. I've fitted the small ones for now as running the heavier alloy wheels on the front.

Also a quick photo of my solution for getting the shocks onto the axle whilst still keeping the clearance for the BTA steering. Not ideal but it will do for now.

Will hopefully get a chance to run it on some rocks soon.

Love this build. The motors give loads more clearance. Can only find the Hobbywing ESC sold in AU on eBay. Is there a USA seller or a similar ESC here in the states that you could recommend. I want to do this mod to mine. Thanks in advance!

I'm sure if do a search on ebay for hobbywing 25a car esc, a whole bunch should pop up from Hong Kong and China. The other option would Hobbyking sec's but I think I decided against them as the manuals online only listed a 60% max drag brake vs the hobbywing's 100%.

great build my man. so many good mods here. and I luv the choice of the beetle juice chassis. What battery are you running with these outrunners, how much more wheel speed/ torque do you think you have gained?

props on the build

you only need a dig if you do not have rear steering and are competing, the dig helps in making tighter turns
if you lock up the rear and pull with the front steering turned you skid around the rear inside wheel
and conversely if you lock up the front and turn the steering you skid around the front inside wheel
with 4ws this becomes unnecessary except just to say you have it
with two escs you can use the transmitter to control either the front or the rear without a dig switch it is done with the radio
if you have enough channels for both escs
with two escs you can mix front to rear escs and give it more juice to the motor with the most load to avoid clod stall
and with two escs and 4ws you can turn front steering to the left, rear to the left, front motor in reverse, and rear motor forward
and the crawler will spin on its own axis.

Do I need to get two of them to do the dig and dual motor setup (asks the total newb)?

Being brushless you will need 2 esc's no matter how you wire it up. Brushless esc's use feedback from the motor to determine motor position so 1 esc would be unable to know where in they're rotation 2 motors were to enable them to run right.

To run dual esc's with dig you will also need a transmitter that is able to do mixing of channels like the hacked flysky gt3c that I'm using.

If you were happy without dig you could use 2 esc's with a "Y" harness running off channel 2 on your receiver. This would allow you to use the stock transmitter and keep your 4 wheel steering.

I'm running a 900mah 3 cell battery. The 1000kv outrunners work out to about a 55turn 540 brushed motor in speed. They are pretty on par if not a little torquier than the factory motors.

I would love a little more wheel speed but I'm not prepared to trust the esc's on 4 cell lipo. I would consider it if I hadn't removed the heat sinks and fans from them to fit them in the chassis.

are you running 10t pinion?

Also how much did the cvd conversion cost you?

Hi iDC5,
Yes I am running the 10t pinions. I started out with 10t in the front 8t in the rear but now just get my overdrive through the proportional dig.
From memory I think it was about $80 for the Cvd conversion, plus a good bit of my time with the dremmel. Knuckles are only $10 for the cast ones, and $30-40 for the bully CVD's. The traxxa a shafts were about $6 each. After that it's just time to grind a bunch of metal off the knuckles to get them to fit and also grinding out the diff cups.

Got a chance to have quick play on little rock pile at local playground. Tried to get some video, but my driving sucks when I try to hold the camera and drive. Asked my 3 year old who came to the park with me to film but he is a pretty ordinary camera man, a lot shots of the sky and none of the car lol!
It was a good chance to hang out with my little guy who wanted to drive his car too. Gotta say this is a great hobby to get the kids involved in!

The problem with getting longer videos is I'm enjoying driving it too much to stop and film it. I think I need to employ a cameraman!
Going to a comp in a week or so, so hopefully someone can film it in action for me.
