I like the picture of Shannon Campbells rig with no front axles, thats most of the problem with independent suspension, CV style axles + extreme angles + traction = $$$ broken parts $$$!
they do..... its a bit more costly though
I just bought a summit from LHS to crawl with have some great pics and places to crawl in SD but i am in the works to buy a AX10 if you know what i mean LOL summit is fun though
Everytime I see the Summit I can't help but think it would be cool to do a R/C Top Truck challenge, with the tank trap and all!
If IFS is set up well, this exact ^^^scenario^^^ would keep the CG much lower(good thing"thumbsup"). I have modified my summit quite heavily and continue to do so. I am not saying my Summit is yet up to comp crawler status, but I am working on it. although I will need to find a local crawler guy here to compare to when it is ready.Problem with Independent suspension for a crawler is when your tire moves up (say on a rock) you loose ground clearance. A Solid axle moves the body/axle up with it as it articulates up.

There are most likely courses a Summit will never compete with a 2.2 crawler, but I can guarantee there are places no 2.2 rig could follow me either. Personally I would like to see a new class for rigs between 2.2 and Super maybe it could be called "Large Scale"
Heres to that quadiak! I have seen many pictures, write-ups and several videos of your summit, Sumbot I believe you call it, in action and it's very impressive.
I consider my summit an SAT, or Summit Adventure Truck. Sounds a little fruity I know, but that’s really what it is for me. I was nowhere near expecting any sort of comp rig when I got a summit (not my cup of tea anyhow). I go somewhere put it on the ground and see if I can go THERE with it or start somewhere and see just where I can end up. It’s absolutely amazing, it's virtually unstoppable! I also have an Axial SCX-10, a 1.9 scaler, by no means a 2.2 comp rig but it can crawl extremely well for what it is and it can even manage some stuff my summit can't in terms of crawling but with its "little" 1.9s it can't really even drive through unpacked leaves covering the ground never mind go up a hill covered with them.
Anyhow, I'm not sure if the original poster is ever going to read this more than a year later but a summit isn't what you'd want for a comp rig. If you want something that can crawl decently and go anywhere fast and hard get a summit if you want to go slow and crawl over ridiculous stuff than get a comp type crawler.
