Decided to start a new tuber build and plan to complete it in 3 days. We will see how it goes. Thought I would share the progress. I started the build on Saturday and finished most of it by Sunday evening. All that is left is the camo paint scheme that I plan on working on and finishing off tomorrow.

With basket in hand, I gathered all the needed parts from RCP lane.

I started with the axle assembly and decided on stock Tamiya clod gear cases and aluminum axle tubes.

I am filling the cases with RCP aluminum lockers, TTR CVD's, and a set of Integy aluminum gears to maximize strength and durability.

To finish off the axles, I used JP Customrcs beefy oversized aluminum knuckles and a set of RCP 17mm black anodized hexes.

Noel (RCP Pro) made me some custom servo brackets for the metal gear giant scale Hitec 5745 servos I am using on both ends. The brackets turned out very nice, so I decided to get a few hundred made. I made a custom battery mount for the front axle to hold the 9.9v 2300 mah A123 battery that I plan to power this beast.

Below is a shot of the axle and the internal gears. After applying a little grease, the axles are ready to be joined.

Now that the axles are joined and completely assembled, it's off to the paint shop. Yes, paint. I did say this was a desert camouflage build. No bling on this rig.

NICE START, those look like bomb proof axles:shock:

mamba max and 3013 BL motors?

Applied a fresh coat of metal primer to allow the camouflage paint to stick. This rig will be full desert camo from end to end. Nothing will escape the spray of paint. This includes servos, batteries, motors and wires. Need to do a little grinding on the lower end before applying final top coat paint scheme.

Next step, primer the chassis and wheels.

I applied a coat of primer on the chassis and wheels. I chose some Axial beadlock wheels that were narrowed by one of our resident pro's (Greg Hanna). Greg narrows all our 40 Series Axial wheels that are sold from the site.

Next stop, mount the axles, servo's and electronics. I wanted to get this thing running before I finished everything off with the camouflage paint.

Will you be adding any more camo to the wheels?

I haven't decided on whether to apply camo to the wheels. I have been searching sites for military paint schemes and most of my research showed the wheels one color. I will wait to see how it all comes together once the chassis, axles and side panels are painted.

I'm guessing it's a Hustler? What ESC's and Motor's?:)

Two Mamba Max and two 45 turn. I am using a new Spektrum DX6 DSM radio for this build. I fly rc airplanes and have spent a little time with rc heli and I am use to the rudder stick for rear steer. This radio also eliminates clod stall with correct mixing.

Same set up as my 2.2 and my Super... But I got the new Crawl Masters to test out....:)

Yes, thought about it, but I haven't spent enough crawling time with non-sensored brushless motors and felt a brushed motor might suit my driving skills a little better. I may upgrade to a Novak Crawler system, which with its sensor based technology, may help in the transition to brushless.

Got everything together and took it out for a few hours of crawling. Man I need to get some camo paint on this thing quick. With the base color only, it looks like a big turd.

^^^ Esc./Rec. plate.

Prove it!

The AR6000 Park Flyer Receiver is tiny and fits very nicely on the high plate. I have one Mamba on the floor board and one sitting on the front plate of the main chassis, shown with two holes.

I will Take some pictures tomorrow and post up, before adding the camo.

all of our vehicles that go through the paint shop get a standard solid wheel color as part of the camo job that is done on the rest of the vehicle. desert camo gets a tan and green camo gets black wheels. this is due in part to compatibility of switching wheels to another vehicle of the same make and the standard camo patterns found on each style of vehiclein the military.
