Tech thread: CrawlMaster 540

I'm still finishing up all the ESC backorders. The pitfalls of being a one person business. By monday I will be able to start winding on these again, I have the teardowns here.

How would a motor like this work in a Losi Nightcrawler? I've heard many people say brushless is the way to go on these, but I can't afford a BL setup atm. Looking for options. I love the controllability of your new wind.

This motor won't have the stink needed, I am afraid. It has less power density than a 3 slot build, and standard 540 motors already have a hard time in the losi.

Yep. You can gear it higher and volt it higher without sacrificing the low speed. Since the 3 slot 540 can break plenty of parts, in my opinion the lower power density isn't a big deal for most people. The one exception is the Losi since it needs a lot of power just to turn the driveline. For that rig a brushless motor or something big like the Cobalt Puller is a better bet.

Testing may prove otherwise for this motor in a Losi, but my feeling is that it will stall a bit too easy and will need attention after every outing because of the loads.

Hmm cool I'm interested in a 4s setup for my xr. Gonna snag a couple brxl's i think and 2 motors just not sure which motors yet. I'll keep an eye on how these come along

Any ETA on these?? I know you said after tax season, so do we have to wait till April?

I really need a new motor, and I really want one of these... Gonna buy one in combo with a new TorqueMaster BR-XL ESC.

Winding more this afternoon, and will be doing the same every afternoon as time allows. Looks like the pattern winds may not be an often available version, takes about 6.4 times the time to get one done VS a standard wind.

The first two versions will be a 13t (like a 27t) and the 16t (like a 35t).

Can't wait. I have cans waiting on some arms if they are available seperately as well.

Currently running 37 turns(Checkpoint cans) on 3S lipo in the Berg with 2 of your BR-XL's and a 35 turn on 5S lipo in my scaler, also on one of your BR-XL's.

The Berg needs a little more wheelspeed for my liking. I have 2 of your KR based 45 turn handwounds I thought of running on 4S.

I would like to keep the wheelspeed I have now on the scaler but do it on 3-4S lipo instead of the 5S I am running now..

Awesome, sounds like this is what I need for the Hackalac.

I'll keep an eye out for when they are ready "thumbsup"

JRH you think the 16t would be ok on 4s in an xr? Seems it might be a bit fast if it's about the same kv as a 35t. I'm looking for something around a 45t kv rating... Help please... let me know what you are running in your xr in the videos.

I'm running 13.5's on 4s in the vid. I haven't done a wind like 45t speed yet, but we will get there.

I ran out of good wire for the 13 and 16t arms. More on the way, but with the snowstorm here it may take a few extra days for delivery. So far nobody has driven down my road in 24 hours.

sounds like you need the ups driver that comes out to my house:flipoff: fedex, trashman, usps, etc. won't touch our drive way with the simplest stuff, but our ups man has been out to our house with 1-2 foot of snow on the driveway.

I think UPS cornered the market. It seems like they update their tracking numbers every few hours. My packages always make it here about the same time no matter the weather.
If you get a package through the Post Office, don't expect it anytime soon if its snowy anywhere. Forget about checking the status with the tracking number. They wonder why they are beyond broke?
