Couldn't fight it any longer and ordered a trail finder. Im excited, Saved 70$ by opening an Amazon card:mrgreen:. Probably wont use the card much except to get the reward points. But I figured 389$ for a shipped RTR was a good deal to get me rolling.

Im starting this thread to keep track on my progress and add to the TF2 section. Ill post up pics of its arrival and torture, It will not be a shelf queen. Im thinking pitbull growlers in the alien compound are possible. Everybodys thread here was a huge help in me making up my mind. Sort of wanted a vaterra Ascender, but the ascender is too close to the performance of my wraith IMO. Ill try and keep this tech oriented. And "pic whore" filled just for those who like pics, like me.

As fundage allows it will get upgraded and abused. Anyways, how many here stripped the servo horn? And I understand the driveshafts are no bueno. I have a set of MIP drivers, so ill grease and loctite asap. May take a week but pics and updates will come soon. Chime in with advice and tips and such.

I see both those on the list. Im stoked for this little truck. I had a sawback and sold it. It was cool, but it just didn't do it for me. It wasn't that it was leaf sprung. Im cool with the leaves. I can see lots of money getting dumped in this rig:lmao:

i also bought TF2..Must be a trend or some thing. Going all out on this one,....I'm already $$$ plus into it and nothing in my hand yet.It all the mail but according to tracking the TF2 will arrive tomorrow and the rest of the stuff should follow."thumbsup"

Yeah, I recently bought a TF2 RTR, have my thread going as well. Stock it seems OK, though the electronics leave much to be desired. Stock ESC died on me for some unknown reason withing a week. Replaced with HH BLE Pro ESC, not the cheapest, but should be quite reliable. Also broke the Bumper that came with it that you can install, too cold, plastic must have gotten brittle, ran into a pole while I wasn't paying attention and it shattered, so yeah really need to replace those parts with metal. Had to get a lift kit to install 1.9 wheels/tires that I wanted to run. Replaced stock servo, just seemed a bit on the weak side and already had aluminum servo horn so never had a chance to strip the plastic servo horn. Still got quite a bit I would like to do of course, most likely going to convert to 3link/4link, not 100% on that yet, but will probably happen and of course need to pick up scale stuff :D.

Any rate look forward to seeing your TF2 as well.

Tracking number says it will be here Tuesday from California If weather conditions allow. Thanks for the advice! I'll have to see where my experience goes with this little truck. I wanna make my own bumper. I own a plasma cutter and have access to oxygen acetylene at work.

That's awesome!! I didn't even think to look on Amazon. I've got some gift cards that are burning a hole in my pocket lol.

It arrived. Pic dump time. And I only drove it around the basement. Super slow but that's cool. Will take to work and take each gearbox apart and fill with expensive Mercedes green grease. This is a ton of pics. Some are boring, but I wanted people who are thinking about ordering one like I was to see exactly how it comes outta the box :flipoff: New mirrors are rubber and mine came with a front bumper even tho their site says no front bumper. Servo horn is plastic and paper thin looking, but maybe it will hold up for a few sessions. Will add pics and "tech" as I go! If you don't have one yet, you need to get one now before the Govt' bans them for being too cool! This is the PMag of the RC world....And I didn't buy the Kit cause I could sneak this purcha$e through at Tax time and I dont have 30 R/C's and a plethora of spare parts like others on here do. So I bought the RTR and will upgrade as I go. Kit looks sweet for the 2 speed tho.

Lucky you didn't stab yourself with a pair of scissors and wind up with 5 stitches getting that out of the box lol. Anyway once you do start getting that rolling around more the rear view mirrors are prone to falling off. Wound up Gluing them to the body as I managed to get both to rip right off, their not very sturdy that's for sure, but have yet to have an issue with them since they have been glued. The front Bumper and Bumper Mount are a tad weak as well as I said earlier. The ESC, at least on me decided to give out on me in about a weeks time. I did find the stock Servo to be lacking as well, if you will notice at dead stop if you try to turn the wheels it doesn't do so well. As for the rest, just ordered the XVD, but really haven't had any issues with the rest of the vehicle as of yet, though I would like a bit more articulation with the suspension, it isn't horrible just more would be nice. Attempting to get it close to the performance I am getting from my SCX10-II, gonna take a few upgrades to get it there though of course, but other than a few issues box stock it is a nice vehicle.

As a side note, the Electronics box is Not Waterproof so you may want to, if your going to be running in any sort of water/snow, waterproof the Receiver, you can open it up and apply a coat of either plasti dip or conformal coating which will more or less waterproof that so you do not have to worry about it quite as much.

Thanks Bud! Ill keep those things in mind. Gonna see how I wind up running it around bone stock for a Bit. I sure hope to get a little more life out of the stock ESC and so on than you did there. But time will tell.

nice to see the un-boxing on the RTR...Here i thought the whole body was red.Nice to see the inside of the bed painting hell they even painting the window moldings...are the tail lights painted already...

They are painted already. I'm about to start messing with it at my toolbox here on lunch. Solder a deans connector to the ESC and grease the trans and t-case.

Smashed Benz wheel bearing grease in the T-case and did my connector. Wiring is routed poorly. Its right on the battery plate im gonna re-route it.

I want some sealed bearings by fast eddy but not in the mood to cut loose more cash til I have ran this around a little. Will do all the free mods I can for now. I have heard to super glue the rings up on the driveshafts. And of course grease everything. But I see these driveshafts not hanging out long and that servo horn will probably die. Read thru the tips and tricks. Will remove internal shock springs and maybe try 70wt shock oil?

Greased transmission and diffs at lunch they were pretty much bone dry. Moved front shock towers back and got some 60wt oil to try out in the shocks. Not liking the front shackle angle. Going to cut the valance off too, but wanna research the threads I've seen where guys did that more first. Removed the springs from the shocks also. I pretty much just smash the grease in. Their is still plenty of room for "air" to move around in there too. Not like its moving around that fast anyway! No action shots yet because winter decided to throw down harder than it has in years here and it 5 degrees out right now:roll: And covered in 2 feet of snow or more in town. Will still take a small snow adventure or two tho!

Welcome to TF2-land. These are great trucks, and you're off to a good start. If you haven't already read the TF2 guide stickied here, check it out. Lots of good tips and tricks on getting the most out of the truck and making it your own. "thumbsup"

The front Bumper and Bumper Mount are a tad weak as well as I said earlier.

The stock plastic mounts are a bit flexy, but they hold up fine. RC4WD does make aluminum bumper mounts with a much more solid feel. One thing to note...there are three versions to choose from with different mounting heights for the bumper. So best to pick the bumpers you're going to run and use the plastic mounts to figure out which mounting heights work best before buying the aluminum ones.

Yeah, I only meant a tad weak because mine snapped, though it was sub zero outside and I did have it going full throttle into a stop sign pole when I wasn't paying attention lol.

Hey Correll, I missed that you had a TF2 man. I just ordered a SWB kit version and am putting it together now. I feel your pain about the weather. Just dipped into the teens today. Two days ago it was 50 degrees. Hope you get a break in that Big Sky weather.

And fwiw; if you go with another RC4WD rig, get their kit. They are an absolute pleasure to build. So much more than Axial kits. I seriously loved kit building both of my trailfinders and can't wait to finish this swb. It'll be my third rc4wd kit.

Removed internal shock Springs and filled with 60wt oil. Arched the leaves slightly by hand. Routed wiring better. And made my own rear bumper stops on the shocks. Took it out for a winter break in session. I'm posting this with tapa talk. Which I've never really used so hopefully it turns out ok. Drives good. About to my expectations. Super glued the rings for the driveshafts up into place. Thinking the stock tires are "ok". But I like either the rc4wd rock stompers. Or, pitbull 1.55 growlers in alien komp. Cut out just the center of the lower valance to allow use of stock plastic tube bumper, and so the shackles can cycle. Running a 2s 5000mah 20c venom battery. Super slow but good enough.
