The best servo.

Haven't beat up on it yet but the HV500 is whisper quiet too.

I have beat the crap out of my HV500 and can concur, it's as quiet as a dead mouse. That's the difference between brushless and coreless. Brushless servos are silent, coreless is just a marketing gimmick methinks.

I will never go back to Savox after running my Holmes HV500. in fact I sold the Savox out of my other truck and bought a second HV500 servo, they're that good.

I'm currently running a Pro-modeler 420 in my Bomber and am very happy with it. It's literally ripped apart Revo ends, stripped clamping axial servo horns, and keeps on ticking. Well, it' doesn't tick. It's actually eerily silent unless your pushing it up against stall load.

I like it so much I've purchased another for my brother's Twin Hammers (Note: the V4 barely fits in a TH with a couple mm trimming of the servo mounting brackets), and I'll be getting another for a scratch built 1.9 truck. Value of strength and durability to the dollar makes it hard to beat the Pro-modeler 420. Keep in mind the guy designing these has very few warrantied, but keeps updating them to make sure they are the best they can be.

I'm very hard on equipment, and as such I've burned through hundreds of dollars worth of Hitec and Savox servos over the years. I've warranteed both of my 7950's TWICE within a year. Broke every Savox I've bought and been unable to get any response for warranty. Well, that's not quite true, the first 1258 I bought for my Blitz is still going strong years later, but that is a totally different, and lower, level of abuse compared to crawlers and U4 style bashers.

Many of my friends are running the HV500 from Holmes and they don't have any complaints, so I would also consider that as an option.

I would agree that brushless is what you want, not core-less. In my experience the brushless servos run quieter and cooler.

And version 4 is out $79.95

HANG UP AND DRIVE !

I will be buying one of these next. I usually break all of my toys since I play rough. This looks like it might hold up even if my truck falls apart around it lol. Thanks for the link! "thumbsup"

The pleasure is mine.

What got me wasn't great customer service and support....Holmes has that down pat.

Both Vendors are named John.....A great common thing as John Beech's service is unreal !

What sold me was the simple search on the 420 servos was not ANY forum complaints or issues(look in the Aircraft Forums) that I could find. So I bought one.

Within HOURS I received a Email confirming and thanking me.....No not a robo post....a real contact, who then emailed me a follow up asking if I had it yet. Nope, was coming the next day per my shipper tracking #.
It came with a mint and I am still madly in love with it. "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

The follow up was more "insider" stuff, and a bit of his thoughts! Some pictures and more improvements from V2 to V4.. and why he doesn't use the 500 oz rating at higher voltage, and titanium gear facts....

I'd like to see someone step it up and build a servo with crazy torque. I don't care if it has to run a separate power harness ala holmes or not so long as it runs a legit 7-800 oz torque at a respectable speed. Doesn't need to be a lightning fast servo so long as it's not running in slow motion and it's strong.

The promodler looks like a good piece but it's a bit on the weak side running 420 oz. Holmes isn't bad at 500 oz but I'd like to see a bit more power.

It's priceless that people are hung up on the "low" torque rating of "only" 420oz/in. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Pro-modeler is one of the few servos that actually puts out more than it's rated torque.

I can say from personal experience in similar trucks running the same direct 2s power from the battery that the Pro-modeler feels every bit as strong as my 7950's.

The 7950 is no crazy powerhouse either. It's 68 oz advantage over the promodler isn't going to be all that noticeable unless you have testing equipment attached.

I was pretty happy with the power of my 7980 but it died. The bluebird hb50 that replaced it is a solid piece so far even though I'm only running 7.4 volts to it.

Just picked up the hv500 after obliterating the top case of the savox 1231 and snapping the position sensor shaft.... pretty excited for a real servo

The Hitec blatantly feels more powerful than the v4420. I've got 2 v4's and two 7950. I'd still take A V4 420 ANY DAY over the 7950 though. Both @7.4

My 7950's both feel more powerful than my 420v4's both on return to center and turning strength. The hitecs just don't hold up for shit. These promodelers are TOUGH as nails.

With so many good alum cased servos out on the market now, it's mind boggling why anyone is running plastic cases these days.

^ best for what ? ...hand holding, steering the 1:1 google car !?

Maybe something that could actually fit into an 1:10 scale crawler.

I agree that the 7950 has some more power on return to center. Otherwise they're about the same. I will say that not long after I sung the praises of the bluebird servo the middle pin snapped destroying the first gear. Luckily for a friend that installed his bluebird servo the morning we went crawling I had it with me so when his electronics smoked I gave him my servo as parts. Expensive lesson and not one I'll soon forget.

Damned right. So far it's been rock solid.

(except for WhiteTrash)

:lmao: indeed. The cheaper savox line and I are not friends.

Was going to say you seem like a prime cantidate for a 2980 and a DLUX strengthener, but I'm starting to believe you're the "electrical gremlin" everyone mentions when they have problems.
