The recent changes to Nats/worlds

What do you think about the recent changes to Nats

Now I will just take my vacation time and $$$ and go to Playa....sit on a beach...drink and swim all day....and crawl on a rocky beach in Mexico with a cold beer in my hand. $1500 to go to "Worlds" missing some of the best drivers....or $1500 to spend a week in an all-inclusive paradise where I can still rock crawl on a tropical beach. Not a difficult choice for me to make.

$1500? I'm at $820 doing 2 classes and flying from a similar distance. Splitting a hotel with 2 others. Nothing shabby.

1. My wife would want to come with (2 airline tix instead of 1).
2. She is VERY picky about hotels. (Will not stay in a Holiday Inn or a Best Western...she is a Hyatt type of gal)
3. Food/Drinks (Once again she is not a sandwich or drive-thru person either)
4. Pet Sitter for my 2 dogs ($70/day)

My pals call her "The Princess".

If it gets moved every year , that wouldbe great . Just don't for get about the Dirty South . I'm not talking about So Cal either .

Maybe they'll re-evaluate those who are sponsored by them, giving some spots to drivers willing to support them at all the events with a great attitude. I don't get free stuff (not even a deal beyond the deals the great vendors here give) and have to pay the same as would anyone living on the east coast to get there. This is the comp that matters most...just like racing: winning a worlds is a huge deal more so than any nationals or regional event. What win's the worlds brings business...ask Just Zach's sponsors I know Reign RC sold plenty of chassis after the 08 Nats based on a win.

My only fear with these changes is...will we really be changing locations? If this stops moving or running more than 1 year per location it will hurt the cause moreso.

It'll be good, but keeping on track of the plan is what will make this work or fail. Split the country in 3 regions: West, Midwest, East. (move the event yearly to a location). Or even by the given 4 time zones.
there is my disappointment. I'm not sposored, I run a one off chassis (that's working well) I planned and saved all year for the Nats only to find out now that I ASSUMED wrong and now can't rearrange things to work out. I thought this would be a great chance for me, a regular guy, to try my skills with the best.
Changing the dates and locations is fine. But tell us in February.

Love your idea about regions. print up a calender with dates and locations for each one. four trips a year, three in your region and one to the nats.

Are you kidding me?

Every were I turned I saw someone that was rock climbing, mtn biking, road bikes, fly fishing, hikers, and 4-wheelers.

Ever hear of Lake Tahoe?

Its about 30 min away, and you can do all that plus a whole lot more! 11 golf courses and water activities. You can do a million more things in that area with trees, decent food, and good looking women.....3 things Moab will never have:shock:

Not to mention, Fordyce Trail is 10 mins away and the Rubicon Trail is 25-30 mins from the comp site. 1:1 drivers could get some crawlin' in as well.

Is your post about an RC rock crawling trip vs a mexican beach vacation, or
Moab vs Donner?

If its Moab vs Donner using "The Princess's" standards I can assure you her standards won't be met in Moab. Best Western is the top of line there, and probably the case for a couple hundred miles. Lake Tahoe has several 5 star resorts that should be up to her standards.

Not trying to argue with you....I have a high mainetance lady myself, so I know first hand what you are talking about"thumbsup"

RC Rock Crawling in California vs Casual Rock Crawling/Mexican Beach Vacation.....She did not want to go to MOAB at all. California was a better choice in her mind over Moab. But for the time required, and cost...she prefers the Mexican Beach Vacation. You know what it is like to have a Princess.

$95 per class this year:shock:

You think $95 is out of line for the World Championships? Have you seen what other hobbies, or hell even other disciplines of RC pay?

I wonder why the fees were raised $20.00 for the same spot.

Because this event will be much bigger, and therefore much more money/time/work goes into it.

California isn't as on par with Moab as a vacation destination for me, can't wheel, can't mountain bike, can't hike just not worth going.

Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, Rubicon Trail, Hiking everywhere. Have you even googled the area to see what it has to offer?

That really sucks, I used to have a high maintenance wife like that, best thing I ever did was kick her to the curb.

To say the least, all three of us (Joe, Tyler and me) are beyond disappointed. I tried every way I could last night trying to find deals. Between rental car, food, gas, lodging, plane tickets and the outrageous amounts for entry fees, this is obviously no longer a family friendly environment. After all of the hard work we all put in this year and the amount of money we saved for the trip (no where near enough), saving my vacation (for naught), and just looking forward to it, just to be yanked out from under us. I am disgusted and I am tired of hearing the excuses. I feel that we all deserve so much more than this. For the non-believers here is what I have so far on the expenses:

Plane tickets: $900 at least
Lodging: $750 at the very least
Rental Car: $400
Entry fees: $570-$665
For me to stand there and watch and breathe the air: $40
Total: $2,755.00

And that doesn't include fuel and food.

Since I don't have the ability to shit out an extra $1000 on demand, we will not be able to make it.

We have tried to convince him but, you have to see her and him to understand why he is still with her... Him overly proportion (sorry Josh you know its true) Her: Hottie

To get back on topic, my wife (about the best in the world) is trying to convince me to go. Where is the best place to fly into?? Is it best to fly to reno and drive? Maybe there should be a trip info thread???

Me too. And Tyler. Not many 9 yr olds will wake up at 2:00 in the morning for two Saturdays a month to drive 3-4 hrs away to compete.

None of this seems to have been considered for any of the drivers around the country...

I feel your pain. I am in the same boat and that is just trying to get me out there. I hope they have fun with their corporate event.

Why do you think that only sponsored drivers make it. It is fine that you have changed your views on this hobby. I am glad it is going where you want it to. I just think that alot of the folks that helped you get there were in it becouse it was fun and fairly cheap. Not so now days.

Best place is Reno ~1 hour. Sacramento is close too, only 1.5hours. Whichever you can get to cheaper.

I find it funny you mention Sponsored racers only. Both Michigan 2.2 invites are privateers and we're going. I pay for all my tires, foams, wheels, axles, radio equipment.

Others are sponsored and are not going. They get all that free product and are the face of the company at an event. It's too bad that some can not make it. Many of them are great figures for their sponsors and just all around great people.

Cost of 2008 RC Nitro worlds entry: $300 a far cry from $95.

Was talking about how the 1/8th scale and 1/10 scale racing. The prices of the events has pushed alot of good drivers out of the race. The same road we are heading down. $95 dollars is cheaper then the entry to the other rc related events. But compared to other rc crawling events it is alot. This hobby has been fairly cheap after building a rig, but that is changing. Next year it will be well over $100 dollers a ticket and climb higher each event. It happens to everything that gains popularity so i guess in the back of my mind i was hoping it would stay small for longer. Imo the individual is the one to get hurt in the end. Soon the parts that the big named guys run will not even be sold to public. Special compound tires for the big teams. That is the way the ball rolls when stuff gets alot of support.

Hell ya,
The Rubicon has nothing on the Fordyce Trail..........IMO.
The Fordyce can be ran in a day with no camping to finish it out.
The 1.1 will be on the trailer.

This will be a AWESOME event!!!!!
