The unofficial official axial portal buggy.

Straight up. Those Duratrax Deep Woods are some of the best performing tires I've come across for my local terrain which is a mix of sharp and smooth rock with sand in between. Much better than my Hyrax, and just as good as my cut and shaved TSL's. Just don't buy the pre-mounts, the wheel hexes strip very easily (stout drivetrain with no slipper clutch.) The included foams are comically soft too. I'd personally just wipe the lettering off with some acetone. For those who can't see its scaleness, google "Silverstone MT117 Extreme"

They are identical to Louise Cr Champ too.
And 1:1 counterpart is both from Silverstone 117 and from Simex Centipede (IMO 1:1 best tire for jungle competition, Rainforest challenge and similar)

Yeah but my beloved RPP gives 10% off and free shipping. Not to be a cheap bastard but it’s closer to $75 vs $95 anywhere else. :/ I was thinking 2200 might be enough. Realistically nobody has driven one so we can’t really know.

Does anyone know the code or how to get 10% off at RPP?

Thanks

14 According to the manual.

Thanks!

So, I got the suggested Spektrum servo for the dig, just because I know it works without having to fabricate my own linkage. If it needs upgraded later it will get it.

Proline predator compound BF Goodrich Krawlers, going to try out the stock beadlocks for a while, will upgrade to aluminum later.

Hobbywing 1080 and one of the just released Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster sport 540 13t. I want to stay brushed on this for extreme slow speed start up control. I don't see this as a 1000hp U4 truck but more of a 300hp crawling buggy. It should still have enough wheel speed for the occasional loose dirt hill climb. I may even drop the pinion down to an 11 tooth I have laying around. We'll see.

Going with a PowerHD servo. I know they aren't the best in the world and I've seen a lot of people saying bad things about them, but I've had one in my bomber since I bought it and it's still going strong after some serious beatings.

I'm still frustrated with the battery situation, but I already have an old Reaction 2S shorty pack I'll use for a while. I'm going to want to go up to 3S ASAP, but I don't want to order things now not knowing if they will fit or not.

I'm so ready to get this truck on the rocks!!!

Sounds like a very workable setup... "thumbsup"

and maybe this will help?

BATTERY TRAY
The battery tray is forward mounted, and located under the hood. The tray size is built for shorty packs, at a maximum size of 26mm x 98mm x 47mm.

Yeah, my concern is that most shorty packs on the market are 2S, and a lot of them use the bullet plug wires that come out of the face, and I'm wondering how much of an issue that is going to be with this tray. If we are limited to shorties that don't use the bullet plugs, our options are sadly very limited.

i'm also considering non shorty, just smaller 2200 mah packs, but a lot of those have a length of 100mm+ while the tray is only 98mm.

I'll just run it off the shorty I have for now and maybe take it to the local hobby shop after getting it built to test fit things out there.

I hear ya, best practice may be to wait for final assembly to get a feel for what will work best!

I know that. Just thought it was interesting choice.
The majority of the guys on this forum that have used those tires have nothing but good things to say about them. Said they do as well if not better then other major brand tires with good foams.

I know they're pretty good, i have the 1.9s and 2.2 showdowns, me personally i would've picked the showdowns. Would just look better on that capra! Of course my opinion tho.

I think Rich has done a great job showing off any requested Capra pics. Now Rich, show us a Capra without portals.

On the bright side, common 1300-1800mah 3s packs will fit and are usually cheap. The Goldbat brand you mentioned has 2 1500mah 3s packs for $27 on Amazon which would be good for a couple hours of driving.

Even if you don't go dirt cheap on batteries, you're looking at packs that are still $20ish or less.

Thanks for the link. I ordered 2 to try.

I've also been searching around for other micro servo options since I HATE that most of them have no servo horn options other than what's included, and they generally include brittle (ABS?) horns. It also looks like most of them have the same specs as the Tower Pro MG90S, which can be had for $4. I did come across the JX1151 which should fit, has more torque, and a standard 25 spline output, for the same cost as the Spektrum SX107 servo that is recommended for the kit (which sure looks like an MG90S with a shorter lead.)

I would imagine a lot of similar sized servos will work.

If you want to test out other servos, pick up AX31009 as it has the servo saver bases for 23, 24, & 25T servo splines.

Interesting tire choice?

I wonder if he was using the stock foams or aftermarket in these tires since the Capra is so light?

Interesting question. Duratrax tires are pretty good, but the foams aren't good.

I think I might try a set of these tires on my Capra when I get it. My LHS has them for $15 a pair. Perhaps I'll try it with the stock foams since the truck is so light and see how it goes. I could always get better Foams down the road if the stock ones don't cut it

Really good question. Maybe dual stage soft foams, cuz the Duratrax foams, really soft.
