Thinking About Getting Out of RC

Well, mostly anyway. Long story short, I'm incredibly busy with work, and other day to day life anymore. I've been into RC for over 20 years and built / bought about 7 rigs last year alone. I also raced locally last year, and was super pumped to have a local track. The track is all new this year, bigger, faster and includes some natural elevation change. I haven't been one time this year.

Since getting back into bicycling, that's all I do on my free time pretty much when I'm not hanging out with friends or family. Part of that is I know it's really good for me, but part of it is that I'm really competitive and can't stand getting dropped from the group so I try and ride a lot to improve my fitness to keep up. My buddy having a massive heart attack and a quad bypass at only four years older than me helps keep me motivated also. And I enjoy seeing the scenery from in a way that I've never seen it before, and enjoy the quiet of it compared to the motorcycle to be honest.

It's also been another wet summer here, which limits outdoor activities so I have to pick and choose whenever I get a decent weather window. Hell, I've barely ridden the moto this year at all, and that's very ODD for me.

I think I've just reached an age where my interests are changing. I haven't touched an RC with the exception of the helis in months. And that was only becuase a friend is getting into it and I'm helping him along.

Thoughts? Opinons? I'm not going to do anything rash and sell off everything only to regret it in a few months, just something I've been thinking about. I'll keep a couple rigs; prolly one scaler, the MERV, and a couple of my favorite helis / quads and that would be it. I just haven't had the urge to run or work on (the Wraith has been down for months now) an RC in months now, not sure why, I just don't.

I think that you would know better than anyone else if it's time to find something else that interests you more. If you do decide to get out of the RC hobby, maybe just keep one unfinished project to tinker with occasionally. Keep dropping in here on occasion just to keep up with what's new, so if you decide to get back in you won't be completely in the dark.

Maybe just keep all of your stuff and just box it up and put it away for a while?

Sell the stuff you know you can easily get back if you get the fever again. Keep the stuff that you know you would miss and that you can tinker with if you get the hankering for it.

I flip flop between scalers and vintage buggies about every 5 years or so. After being gone from the rc scaler scene awhile its been really refreshing to come back and see all the cool builds and new parts.

Whatever you do just make sure you keep your hardware, tools, rod ends, spacers, heavy oz servos. That shit is hard to replace imo.

Couldn't agree more.

Every once and awhile I get burnt out and sell a bunch of stuff - then I either regret it it or buy it all back. :ror:

I have been an artist for as long as I can remember but I loose the connection with it from time to time/years but I always box up all my stuff and put it away, then some odd days I pull it out and crank out a piece and away it goes for months or years but it is always waiting for me when I need it, I wouldn't get rid of much if I were you. Maybe 3 years from now you'll open it up and you will be like a 9yr old with a new box of Legos.

Was where your at now a year+ ago. Been in RC since early 90's, Stadium trucks, Carpet Oval Pan Cars, Nitro monster, Comp crawlers and finally Scale. Loved it, thoroughly enjoyed it. But the passion was gone. Time for a change, change is a good thing. Had a getting out sale at a GTG with the club. Still have a scaler, still prowl RCC, still see a rocky ditch and think man that looks good. But my weekends are full with MTB races now. Follow your new passion. RC will still be there if you return. Just my .02

RiceBurner I think you nailed it. I just don't have the passion for it anymore like I used to. I'll keep a couple rigs and some aircraft, but I think the rest is about to hit the chopping block.

I dunno, gotta find balance somehow. All I can say is, I may only get out on a trail run a few times a year with my good buddy, and I ride at least 3-5 times a week so it's definitely a priority, but when that urge comes to camp and crawl, their better be a crawler there to grab and go. "thumbsup"

I'd say keep at least one rig, storage charge your Lipos, but if you're done, you're done... you know best.

Side note, I can count the times I've crawled this year on one hand, I'm missing it big time, I also miss my bike after 12 hours so I don't know I'm any help. :lmao:

It's always a hard choice. I got out of it and got into my 1.1 jeep hard for about 3 yrs. wasn't much crawling in Mississippi. But now I live in crawler heaven and have slowly been getting back into it. Along with the Mtn biking and Jeeping.

Plus I have to go work on a boat for 28 days so I basically take a break from everything for a month.
You can always come back.. We won't forget about ya!"thumbsup"

I got out after Tom from RC4wd bought my custom JK truggy. It felt like a milestone and I felt it was a great time to get out. I haven't been back and I don't miss it to much. I did keep my 1/16th slash though and it keeps the big from bitting. I did get into photography and it's been awesome!
