TLT-1 Rock buster and TLT-1 Max Climber?

What is the difference between these two? Im planning on getting one (because i cant climb with nitro indoors ) to do SOME climbing and SOME jumping... I figured the Rock Buster might be a little better because of the lower ground clearance and the setup.. Here are the speces for each :

The only differences is that the max climber has a stick pack holder built into it, and I believe it has stronger drive axles (the dog bone like axles that are inside the black plastic axle housing). But, most people don't have problems with the Rockbuster axles unless they are running massive amounts of power and maxx sized tires, and even then they don't necessarily break. Oh the other difference is price, as you probably noticed. Now, a black chassis, red wheels, and a few extra pieces of plastic isn't worth $35 to me. Heck, for $35 you can upgrade to bearings on a rockbuster.

If you're a sap. Or you can do what they did and stick your stick pack above the chassis. Sure you don't get a nice plastic retainer but last time I checked, zip ties worked just as good.

the hill climber has a few extra holes for suspension mounting, due to the fact of where the stick pack holder mounts. with the maxclimber you gat a smidge more room under the chassis.

Do you plan to do any aftermarket mods such as a new chassis? Plan to run different wheels? I have new wheels and the Penguin chassis on order so I went with the Rock Buster and used the $50 saving towards the new chassis and BBs.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but can't you build your own battery pack for the rock buster? The batteries are just arranged differently right?

im stuck in this situation too. i dont know which one to buy... but i do plan on modding it a little. the only thing though is. the rockbuster only supports certain battery packs. thats the only reason im having trouble deciding. and im not going to build my own batterys, i already have 2 2400 packs. hmmm, i dont know know what one to get.

plus the whole battery issue isnt really that much of an issue. You can use a stick pack with a rock buster, it just takes some creativity, and a couple of zip ties. Also you can just buy whatever pack you want, take it apart, and rearrage it into a hump pack like the ones the rock buster is supposed to use. Its that simple.

I just ordered mine, my 2nd one that is. For $80 shipped you can't lose! Besides, if you are making it into a crawler you'll want to move the battery to a non-stock location anyways. I beleive you can buy the parts to convert the Rockbuster to the Maxx Climber battery setup for far less than the cost difference between the two as well.

how often you think i would break an axle with the rockbuster? i just dont know if it worth it just to buy the max crawler only for the axles...since they are better on that model

If you break an axle and order a replacement you get the beefier axle from the Max Climber. So really if you are worried about axles just order a replacement set and your still cheaper with a Rockbuster.

Part numbers for the axle shafts are the same (according to my LHS).... I've broken one axle, and that's because of my stupidity. I was crawling up the windhield of my Suburban in the winter. It got half way up and slid down. A wheel got wedged under the wiper arm and I throttled it. Lathe motor on 8 3300's at -30 degrees celcius snapped the end of the axle where it fits into the stub shaft. I ordered the max climber shafts (full set), and was going to switch them all out. I got the new shafts and what do you know.... they were identical.
