Traxxas 4tec drift car

Wow, was that the Traxxas chassis? There can't be many of those out there, I've had mine since '99!

Yeah, it's the Traxxas one. BuyTraxxas has them in stock! Last I checked, though, the standoffs and bellcrank mounts were not. Made my own.

Chassis prettied up a little. I would like to point out this is done with a vice, drill, a hacksaw, various files, and some scotchbrite. Anyone can do this.

I was planning on doing that myself, until I happened upon the Carbon set. I actually built a 6wd 4ws E-Maxx chassis and a two foot long nitro sand dragster using those same tools. Just take patience and attention to the details.

I like the hidden body mounts. I hate that extra tall untrimmed body posts have somehow become a fad in the drift/touring car community.

I don't like them either. Gotta craft some of those mounts.

Started thinking about the next project. Clod buster body shaved and lowered over a rwd chassis.

Kinda iffe myself on the phantom mounts, but after getting the Velcro on and the body I love them. Subtle and they work awesome.

Got my battery mounts. Waiting on shocks and then I can start test driving it. Waiting on rims too but they will be a few weeks. Going to start the cage and interior tomorrow. Just happend to pick up a wheely king that has traxxas electronics and an axial 27t so they got swapped in.

If you don't mind me suggesting Looneybin, swap out those diffs for the nitro diffs, those stock diffs are weak and no longer available.

Yeah, that is definitely one of the best upgrades to do. You can find complete diffs for cheap on ebay; usually with bearings included. I think the only other thing you need is the REAR nitro diff housing to do the job. This will allow it to hold up under lipo and brushless power.

Nice work on the cage and chassis, looks sharp. I may have to use that body mount design on my drifter, can't stand body posts! lol

Yea the diff's at gonna be a must. I need to lock the rear anyway and the gear setup will be easy. I priced all the parts to do it a couple weeks ago on eBay and it was gonna be like 25 bucks.

Good luck with the diff swap. I did mine last year and still cant drive it because the rear belt is so tight. I am experimenting with an HPI a243 belt which is slightly longer. I had tried using some sakura d3 aluminum pullies that were 13t instead of the stock 15t but they are too narrow. Do you have a plan to deal with the rear belt tension?

You can take a hobby knife and add more notches to the adjusting cam on the rear bearings. That is really the only way to make it work. Traxxas makes 15 rib and 20 rib pullies but after looking if you go bigger the motor is going to be in the way. I'm just gonna get a d3 to try cs with.

I've been contemplating rebuilding my 4-tec, it's been sitting for years and was my first hobby grade on road vehicle. Then I went nitro 4-tec and all the way up through the 3.3 model. The electric was always a fav of mine, it wasn't the fastest and didn't handle the best but was built well and could take a good licking without disintegrating.

I've got the ball diffs, sway bar set, and a few other mods that I remember installing on it, I've been looking for a CF chassis but can't seem to get my hands on one anywhere. Do you have a line on a good place to look?

Anyway looking good hope to see more updates.
