Heres an update of sorts. Let me preface by saying I'm not a basher, I'm very passionate about a sport and the 1:1 world of crawling. Just want to see that the love given back from the vendors.
I have spent around $700 this week on wheels. Mayhem, TSS, and Locked UP Rc. Already own Rc4wd and plastic proline. In hopes to find the best quality and best representing of the sport.
I have not received the Locked Up wheels yet but they should be here tonight so I'll get back to them and I have a couple more TSS sets coming.

The Scale Shop "Versante" limited run wheels are gorgeous.
The machine finish is 8/10.
Assembly was 9/10.
Price is 9/10 compared to available wheels
Overall scale design is 8/10. (actually found this almost identical wheel on a few WEROCK rigs)
Availability was limited edition, so if you don't have as set, you probably never will. I have serial #001 and #010. Hahahahahaha
( I added the lugs)

Mayhem Engineering 2.2 Monsters.
The machine finish is 6/10.
Assembly was 8/10.
Overall scale design is 9/10.
Price is 8/10 compared to available wheels
The 6 given to the machine finish is hopefully a fluke. I can see the tool path of the mill and one of the wheels was no fully machined. The slots milled into. The spokes are not full depth like the others. Also burrs around slots.
Availability seems to vary. Mine took 5 weeks.
They do keep an open line of communication and hooked me up with a "blem" for a spare, for the wait.

The Rc4wd Predators
The machine finish is 5/10.
Assembly is 7/10
Overall scale design is 8/10
Price is 7/10 compared to available wheels
Arguably the most popular and well known wheel design to the crawler and hardcore off road truck market. Readily available. I have 2 sets of these, and the Walker Evans wheels are the only aluminum bead locks that get my endorsement on 1:1 rigs.

Here is a 1:1 that showed up this weeks for a customers build.

nice review. the Versante is without a doubt the most unscale wheels ive ever produced. just a venture into something new that hadnt been done before. I got lucky and people responded well to it.
ive been told it looks like a Iroc wheel, but its actually based off of a 40 series wheel with 17mm hex i designed 5-6 years ago, but never could afford to produce. it actually looks more like a slash wheel to me:lmao:

so 8/10 scale aint to bad.
for future reviews maybe add a value category?

^ and done. And yeah they resemble a Iroc wheel but one that has been converted to a functional beadlock, which is cool. Real wheel with a real world mod
Get what you pay for. But that's also relevant to what we are talking about. VP has the highest quality but at a very high price compared to the rest of the market. And at the end of the day, these are toys. That said, if the right wheel is made, price has a little leeway.

I think these look very scale. My own personal opinion is I can't stand the look a bead lock ring because the size of the screws, it just throws off the scale look. To me, it would be like using 2" headed bolts on a 1:1 bead lock, that may be a little extreme, but you get the point.

I tend to use RC4WD stamped steel wheels more just to stay away from the huge rings.

This is very true, and about as scale as having big ass hardware bolting an adjustable hub to the wheel, and why it's nice to see the wheels running the small hardware and a regular hex. Get all the adjustment I need from different hexes and much smaller head than normal 3mm hardware.
I suggested VP keep their current design like the above pictured, but instead of putting dimples in the outer lip, machine it to look like a bead lock ring with tiny hardware. It's a WIN WIN. Get a functional bead lock with only 6 screws to mess with and über scale. Wether they do or not is up to them.
I like the stamped steel wheel also, except that it doesn't imitate a bead lock. that's the whole point here. 1:1 CRAWLER wheels. I've looked at welding in a ring to those to scale them up, but I owned a set and the tire would spin in the wheel in a bind.

Yeah yeah Brit. There are only 9 sets of wheels here geez!!

Here are the Locked Up wheels. 1.9 and 2.2
These are the Trail Ready inspired wheel I believe. He also makes the Iconic, which is basically an aluminum version of the axial 8 hole bead locks.
The machine finish on these is 9/10
Assembly is 9/10
Price is 10/10
They are readily available as of right now, they are a production wheel. What makes these special is the fact that you can run the popular Mthead delrin rings. They use the same ring pattern as the axial wheels for both sizes. This was a huge selling point for me, cuz all my wheels no matter the make get custom rings. You can also order the wheels without the outer bead lock ring for this reason and save even more. @ $15 for an aluminum bead lock wheel, how can you go wrong. Classic styling, quality machine work, super price and options. Also offered with new scale lugs.
(I used an axial ring until my custom rings show up)

2-56 hardware. That's all I want changed and wish I had waited for the new style with lugs. Would have saved me some time that I don't have.

speaking of beadlocks..

I would like to see some of these HEMTT wheels with 6 lug pattern for the rockwell look.. Way to many fancy designer wheels out there, I would prefer something a little more down and dirty.. The RC4wd mill spec is close but not quite there..
