At what voltage should a guy run an external BEC or volt regulator? I'm running 9.6V NIMH on a Mamba 25 and BM9 motor.

6 volts is a good place to start. Depending on your servo you may be able to run higher than 6. What servo are you running?

I think he means how much voltage/#cells does it become necessary to install a regulator. 8.4, 9.6, 10.8 etc.."thumbsup"

Ah, I see. In that case I would say the only way I would not run a regulator would be if I were running a speed control that had a 3amp/6volt or greater BEC. And only that with 7.2volt input, powering 1 servo. The only other reason I wouldn't run a regulator is if the servo(s) are run straight off the main pack.

So running a mamba max with 3s lipo, 55t lathe and 645mg servo(electronics on the way), I should invest in the castle bec? If I dont will it fry my servo?

No it shouldn't fry the servo, it just won't run at full performance. Like if the tires get in a bind, you won't be able to turn. The mamba max will likely run a little hotter due to the added stress on the BEC. I think the castle BEC is a great investment for any crawler. It packs a large punch for a very low price.

I running the exact same setup and I'm having some weird turning/reversing issues that i suspect a Castle BEC will solve. Still haven't ordered one yet though...
I should do that now.

if you are running a 3s lipo with thw MM and a big time steering servo like the JR8711 403oz you WILL FRY your mamba max..........I know from experience, I did have the long aluminum servo horn on it:lol:
