What do you guys use to "clean" your rigs?

After a few months of use, my rig is pretty dusty, plus has some oil residue on the axle housings from the shocks leaking. I'm just wondering, how/what do you guys use for a quick clean on your rigs? An air compressor is the first thing that comes to my mind, but what about something like a can of electrical contact/parts cleaner, or the cans used to clean keyboards and such? I'm thinking along the lines of something that is going to remove any oil residue or dust from the brushes in the motor, not just scatter it around.

Electronics cleaner is good for the motor...and if you spray it on a rag then wipe down any other surface it works pretty good too. I use simple green on the tires...makes them look like new. My buddies I crawl with all say my rig is too clean....can't help it I guess.

Compressed air is nice if you got it....

I've always dusted down my stuff with a good paintbrush (2") then give it a wipe down with Simple Green, awesome stuff. I do this on all my cars/trucks and have been doing so for years. Nothing I hate more than a dirty ride. Depending on what I use it for I will tear it all down clean it and put it back together (race vehicles= after everyday of racing, bash/fun= only when they get nasty).

The creek I'm crawling in."thumbsup"

:ror:

:lmao: That's what I used to do with my atv, works well.

As for RC.. None of mine are waterproof but when one was I'd just wash it off with a hose and then let it air dry and oil any exposed metal and the motor bearings ect..

Just general dirt and dust I don't worry about too much unless I'm working on the insides of the axles or tranny in which I brush the outside off really well with a designated toothbrush first. If you have an air compressor it works well to get heavy dirt and dust out but won't leave it spotless.

One thing I always do is when I get home I drive the truck around on the lawn for a bit. Cleans up the tires and undersides a little so it doesn't get my work bench filthy. "thumbsup"

Motor spray for motors. Naphtha for gears, simple green for everything else.

I use Simple Green, a Rag and an Air compressor..

You can get a Simple Green concentrated jug for $8, which makes 15galloons! "thumbsup"

How i clean..
1. Air Compress.. Removes all loose items.
2. Spray Simple Green on rig, Allow it to work its magic for 30sec.
3. Air Compress Simple Green off Rig after initial 30sec.
4. Use Rag to get excess or left over dirt, oils, and simple green that the Air compressor did not get.

I like straight denatured alcohol. It is easy on the plastics and cuts grease pretty well, plus its easy on your hands unlike some if the other chemicals (simple green, etc). The only thing you must beware - the water-based lexan paints do not like it.

I don't really ever bother to wash my rig, apart from the tires. And that is just soap and water. I might get a cloth and wipe any dust off sometimes but I don't really get my rig that dirty. Spends more time in pieces on the desk and shelves because I am always tinkering with it. ;-)

i dont have a crawler yet but my other RCs get a toothbrush with simple green for the gunky stuff and come compressed air for just the dusty junk. i try to do the WD40 on them to keep the stuff off a little better as much as i can

I bought an air compressor for $50.

wd40 weakens plastic(not all compound of plastic) and attracts dust if you don't wipe off the residue. It will also deteriorate rubber and cause it to dry out in time.

Simple Green is the shit.
