what is better nicad or NimH and what are you running for batteries i'm looking team orian 6 cell 3000 mAh super duty plus NimH (2), or peak performance NimH power maxx pro 6 cell 3000 mAh (2).
I would go for the high capacity NimH cells. Nicad batteries have memory issues that requires them to be fully discharged before you charge them. That is if you want to keep them in good shape. I use the Orion 3000 mah Super Duty stick packs for my crawler, and I think they are really good for the price. For my losi buggy I use GP 3300 side by side cells, but they really aren't neccesary for crawlers. Make sure your charger can charge NimH cells.
yes my charger can NimH its a reedy quasar pro its for NimH and Nicd. right now i'm just useing a dyno fun 2000 mahbut the bad thing is all hobby shops around me don't have any orian 3300 mimh.
Either of those packs would work in a crawler, not like they are pulling major amps, like a mod motor. If your LHS has GP3300s, GP3700s, IB3600s, or IB3800s, those are probably some of the better cells on the market right now. But they do not come cheap.
As for charge rates, I would charge them at 5-6 Amps, with a threshold of .05mv/cell or .30 mv for the pack, if you run a 6 cell pack in your crawler.
I charge my crawler batteries at 4 amps. Less charge amps will give you more run time, but will take longer to charge; More amps will give you more punch, but will also reduce the life span of your batteries. I want as much run time as I can get for crawling, and I don't care too much about the acceleration of a crawler.
