I'm interested in looking into Auto-cad software. How much is the program worth? Doesn't matter if its Canadian dollars or American dollars they seem to be at par. Any help is greatly appreciated.
For the pro versions around $3k USD, now you want something like Inventor, solidworks, solidedge its going to be more. This is a yearly cost if you want to stay current.
Best bet is to find a college student and have them buy you a student version. It may have some of the more advanced features disabled but will do everything you need it to do for this hobby. You can get it for around $300 USD.
Auto cad pro is that much, for the lite version it's usually only around 700-800. There are several free programs on the net that usually work for people who don't need it for major component solid modelling. If you do a search you would find a lot of stuff. Search is your friend.
The cost of CAD and 3D software is ridiculous. They really, really stick it to you for that stuff.
now, I've used lots of different 3D design software, some of it created by people for use with video games, some of it professional stuff that I've gotten to mess around with on other people's computers. I've used Solid Works (briefly) and in high School and College I worked with Auto Cad version r12, r14, and 2000 for five years. (this is back when there WAS NO point n' click interface. You had to KNOW all the commands and type them in).
NO piece of computer programming is worth 3 to 5 grand. i don't care if I can make my own version of "The Matrix" with it!
but then, I'm a horrible tightwad.
When i was in college I almost bought the student version of Autocad. I say ALMOST. talk about kicking yourself in the butt.
I'm in college for Mechanical Engineering and can get them for free:lol::lol::lol: Yes they are educational versions, but they are fun to play with when I am not doint school work with them.
My single seat of SolidWorks 2008 with the yearly due's was low $7000.00's. And for those who think CAD software is pricey, try good CAM software. The list price for the MasterCAM X2 I have is about $13,500.00.
yeah, a lot of smaller companies are just going with autocad light, $700 on time fee, and unlimited seats. mine did, it works, OK, but i can't seem to be able to load external LISP routines into the light version like the full version...
try e-machineshop.com , you can use there free software and they'll even quote out making the product for you, only problem that i have found is that you are really only able to draw 1 part in full, It will not let you build say a whole tube chassis because the software cannot differenitate the seprate pieces (not sure i'm making sense)
