wheel keeps falling off

It seems that my right rear wheel is prone to coming off my wk. :x I think I didn't tighten the wheel bolt down enough once, and now it likes to come off even after I tighten the bolt under high torque situations. I think it basically mushroomed the wheel hub so the little hexagonal piece isn't a tight fit anymore.

My question is:
Would it be a bad idea to basically glue those little plastic hex pieces inside the rim for a stronger joint? I can see one problem would be that I'd have to buy new hex pieces when/if I get new wheels, but would it interfere with anything? What about a stronger/metal hub and/or hex piece (I'm sure it has a proper name)?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

you should thread lock the nut on your wheely king so it doesn't come off. some people also CA glue their hex in their rim but i haven't needed to do that yet.

it's a nylock nut, so it "shouldn't" keep coming loose. I think it's coming loose b/c I screwed up the edges on the hex part and on the rim so they don't have a tight fit, and under high torque they will slip apart and the wheel will fall off!

Sounds like gluing them together isn't a bad alternative...

thanks!

The nylocks can still come loose, especially after several mounting/dismounting of the wheels. The nylon develops grooves which don't hold as good as a fresh nylock nut.

So far I've JB Welded Traxxas Aluminum hexes into my Axial beadlocks (broke the bond on one them already too:| ) and have switched over to non-flanged nylocks which I may also lock-tite in the future.

Loc-tite is your friend!"thumbsup" Blue, medium strength.

If you have spare nuts, put another on to lock the lock nut into place. Worst case scenario it wont work.

We've all got nuts on hand to spare.

thanks all for the input.

I'm not sure I have enough axle showing for a double nut type deal. I have a feeling like my nuts are too big for that, though... :D

Next step will be to epoxy the hexes into the rim... Then when I upgrade the wheels, I'll get alloy hexes too!

sound like a plan guy. i had that same problem with my e-maxx. i thought i stripped my differential or something because i could hear this grinding noise. turns out it was the loose wheel hex grinding on my wheel. the damage was pretty bad but like you mentioned before, i just glued the hex into the wheel. then lock-tite my lugs. SHAKE AND BAKE!

No it isn't.
I used red (it's all I had around) then went to take the nut off my wheel and it broke off the thread under the nut. never even loosend up.
Same here, I used it once and learned my lesson. Save the red for 1:1 rigs.8)

I agree, if you use red loktite, you might as well use JB weld...

Blue is better - 'cause Ricky Bobby said so!
