Who is watching the inauguration today?

Bush's inauguration cost the tax payers $42million, Obama's cost $160million. I could see it going up some, like maybe to $62million, but why on earth did it need to cost tripple?

I guess it's ok though since we are in such good times that the government has so much extra money to spend.

Let's hope that actions speak louder than words. That speech was amazing. It reminds me of John F. Kennedy and many of the things he said. I just wonder if Obama will live through his Presidency and if he will actually change the politics as usual approach our country has been plagued with. Just to be clear, I voted independent and did not vote for Obama.

There's a combined total of over 40,000 military and various forms of law enforcement there too.

40,000...that's more military/LEOs than we have deployed to Afghanistan.

Wow, did anyone hear Rev at the end????

Don't believe the lies! You like believing the media lies?...take a quick search you might be shocked. Even the AP seems to admit their numbers were unfounded and unresearched.

Leading up to President-elect Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony, several media outlets have advanced the claim that Obama's inauguration will cost significantly more than President Bush's 2005 inauguration. Citing "estimates" ranging from $150 million to $170 million in total costs for Obama's inaugural events, the outlets have compared the purported total costs in 2009 to the approximately $42 million in private funds spent on Bush's 2005 inauguration. However, these outlets omit the additional costs of security, transportation, and other expenses incurred by federal, state, and local governments in conjunction with the events in 2005 while including them in the projections for the 2009 events.

Yeah, I live in MD and the state had to ferlow(layoff) all state employees 6 extra days this year so they could pay our half of this "celebration".

It's a fact that not only did Obama's Inauguration cost more, his Presidency will cost more.

The security perimeter has been extended father than for any former President.

That includes security along his 137 mile train ride to DC prior to the Inauguration.

I was deployed to DC for Bush's first Inauguration, I know a little about the BS involved in such things.
