Winching a truck down during your run

TwistedCreations said:
no, sheldon said 1 esc..... If they ran 2 esc's, you would be hammering about the dig system again. So it's a no win situation at all. The way I see it, your picking every rule apart completely.

well if one gets to use a certain type of dig ehn you need to open it to all forms of dig to be fair.

open to all forms of dig??? How many forms are there? There is only 1 form..Sorry, 2 forms.. It's either front dig or rear dig..

or both. or with a clod using 2 esc's. its still dig"thumbsup"

yeah and you can use all of that now if you want.... dig is dig...I don't see what your talking about by opening it up to other forms of dig :?:

As stated, dig is dig.. there are numerous ways to wire it up... 1 esc on a clod, 1 esc on a shafty, 2 escs on a clod or 2 on a shafty also..

quoting you: 1 servo 1 esc. that would eliminate the clod form of dig, was my thought

Adjustable wheelbase and ride height rules apply to both 2.2 and super "thumbsup"

I read the rules, and it says nothing about lassoing, so I started practicing my lassoing skills this afternoon. Eventually a rule would be made against though cause cowboys are sure to have an advantage, and the Colorado boys would be pissed if some freaking cowboy won Nationals:shock:

I say we quit bitching about it.

Bender didn't use any of the for-mentioned devices and won the 2.2 class at the Nat's.

Why? Because he is a kick *** driver!

I have a "dig" feature on my 2.2. Does it give me an advantage? Maybe, but w/ that advantage comes liability.

Everything is a give and take.

I use a Clod in 2.2 at the moment. Sure I have awesome center chassis clearance, but I give up axle clearance and weight to the TLT based 2.2s. I'm not bitching because the TLT's have better axle clearance or less weight. I chose a Clod and try to make it's strengths work for me while trying to prevent it's shortcomings from hurting me.

It's all a matter of choice. If you want, you can run a "dig" set up and have that "advantage". With it you also get the liabilities and disadvantages of extra weight, raise the CG of your rig, increase the complexity, and the potential for failure.

Again it's a give and take decision.

Dig, duel ESCs, adjustable wheel base, different crawler platform (Clod or TLT), winching down the front of the crawler, ect... ect... ect... will never overcome good old fashioned driving IMO.

I agree. In all of the discussion it has only made the rules appear muddier. After it is all said and done, the driver wins the comp and not the rig.

As far as I understand the rules, my 2.2 cannot finish the course with a different CONFIGURATION as when it started. It cannot have a wheelbase over 12.5" or a width over 12.5". It cannot have rear steer. This is in a nutshell the USRCRC rules, and NOTHING that has been discussed is breaking these rules except

1. adding a rear steer servo,
2. starting and finishing a run with a different wheelbase configuration (I am talking physical chassis changes and not susp cycling), or ride height
3. or changing a wheelbase over 12.5" at ANY time during a run whether it be due to winching or chassis elongation.

I do not see winching as any rule violation unless it extends the wheelbase past 12.5". WB is measured at the rigs natural ride height, and winching is changing the ride height. As long as this is constistant at the start and finish line, there is no violation.

Does this fly straight with everybody else?

Question:

This is the specific line that we based our judgement at GR on:

Winching or ramping of any kind is not allowed.

So would that not make a system useing a winch as a servo illegal? Or was in a missinterpritation?

winching is not as simple as winching...
using a winch to rectify a stuck situation is one thing, using a servo to compress the front suspension is another thing entirely....
see what i am saying... we need a definition of what is considered winching and what isnt.... personally i know you guy listed some 1:1 rigs that adjust the wheelbase, but i say what is common practice should be legal.

Well if you think about it he couldnt do it anyway the rules state a MAXIMUM of 12.5 inch wheelbase so if it were to go over that he would be DQ'ed

I agree completely! 110% "thumbsup"

After reading the rules, I've been wondering about what would happen if during a run the vehicle sustains damage that shortens wheelbase? Is it DQ'ed, points added on, or?

Does using a winch change the link mount locations at the chassis?

No.

It just cycles the suspension.

Therefore the wheelbase goes unchanged. <--- You guys see the light?

Wheelbase is determined by link separation at the chassis, link length, and shock mounting/length/preload.

You might get an extra 1/8" to 1/4" by sucking the front down. Big deal. You get that as the axle articulates and the suspension compresses anyway.

As I've said before...the easy way to go about measuring wheelbase is to set the RTR rig on a flat surface, cycle the suspension by moving the chassis up and down, let it come to rest, then measure wheelbase.

While discussing this keep in mind that all the gadgets in the world won't help if you can't drive. "thumbsup"

misinterpretation........ winching is actually hooking to something and pulling you up an obstacle. It doesn't say anything about not being able to have a winch hooked up.

WTF.... Are you finally coming out of the closest about your Brokeback mountain experiences?

Why would the CO. boys be ticked? you saying they are the biggest complainers?

You can lasso anything you want, but lassoing something then putting the rope on the truck would be a touch penalty :flipoff:
