XR10's burning up servos?

Im not sure if this question has been asked before but, has anyone else had problems ruining servos on the XR10 with the stock steering set up? I burned up my 7950 last week right after switching to a solid tierod, my buddy's went up in smoke tonight and I know of at least 2 others in my area that have failed.

Its apparent that the stock steering design is horrible and causes binding and weak steering, but could this binding and drag be whats ruining all these servos? Just wanted to see if any others have had this problem.
 
are you running a BEC? The stock steering setup definetly causes more drag which will contribute to the servo getting hotter and hurt it more, especially if your running it for a long time and really working it hard.
 
I noticed if u clock ur axle up it seems to cool the servo down a little but the vanquish stuff helps out to
 
I have seen my ppl burn up Hitec servo's. My futaba is holding up fine. I everyone running 7.4 volts on them, I've seen them burn up a 7.4 volts. Never 6 volts.
 
I burnt up one 7950 on mine. I was running it at 7.4v and before I changed to a solid tie rod and VP knuckles. The VP knuckles were the biggest help. The solid tie rod is definitely second in line.

EDIT...I now run my 7950 at 7v with the VP knuckles and solid tie rod. After one course you can't really tell it was even on, but after a full 40 minute pack it is pretty warm to the touch depending on how hard it's been working. Before the upgrades you wouldn't have wanted to leave your hand on it for too long.

its the stock alum horn on the steering knuckle....get rid of it...the linkages are fine....only bad if you bend it...i went to a solid rod.....regardless get the bwd horn or some vanquish knucks...solves the poor fulcrum issue with the stock piece

I dont understand how the VP knuckles would lessen the load on the servo compared to the stock knuckles?

And somone explain what the problem with the stock knuckles is exactly?

The arm that bolts to the stock knuckles is to short, that causes the servo to overwork. There is three fixes I know of ..........

1: make a new arm
2: buy the BWD arm
3: buy the vanquish knuckles

Since the VP knuckles change the ackerman to zero for tighter steering, steer further before hitting the chub, add a ton of beef and have the longer arm that is what most people do. I run the VP knuckles with the stock tiebar and a 7980 set at 8.4v and it just gets a little warm after a pack, two packs back to back (about 30-40 minutes) and it's warm enough to let cool a minute between packs but still not hot.
 
I burned up a 7950 last week with VP knuckles and a strait link at 7.4. The think the 7.4 the problem, to hot

Do you have a link to the new arm from axial?
 
It's the hitec servos, there crap. I burnt up two of them. Swaped it out with a
futaba servo and it barely gets warm.
 
Set at 7volts with bec and you should be fine..If it burns up send it back..Hitec have great customer service and warranty..

I'm just bashing but mine is holding up great and barely gets warm..Still using the stock arm on the knuckle with a solid tierod..

I would like to see a link to the longer axial steering arm if anyones has it
 
I bought the BWD arm for the knuckle and made my own solid steering link. I've been running a Savox (277 oz) at 6v with no problems and no heat. I just ordered a Futaba s9157 to run on it.
