Glad I could help!

Mine was done in a bit of a rush with a lot of guesswork! But it turned out ok’ish.

Moving on to my motor and esc, the only motor I could get locally was an HPI firebolt 15T, it didn’t run well right from the start, got hot quickly, ran way faster and cooler in reverse but ultimately has burnt out already, I have given up on brushed motors for the TH, it will definately be our fast basher/fun/trail rig now so I’m going brushless.

Just discovered the waterproof castle sidewinder SW4, guys are singing it’s praises over in the electronics section and it’s incredable low end sensorless smoothness. Ebay have some seriously cheap china brushless motors that would put this within my RC budget, I’m thinking about a waterproof 10.5t ( 3600kv ) would that be about right you think? It will be for fast 2s running, sometimes sand dune jumping, maybe some 3s madness too!

The TH took another beating today, the rtr esc can handle 3s but the 15t brushed motors sure can’t!

We decided we could live without our Losi 22 buggy, but not without our Twin Hammers! So I have temporarily transplanted the hobbywing 10bl60 esc and Lrp 17.5T brushless motor with 30T pinion, it’s pretty conservative, very similar to the stock rtr brushed set up on 2s and 3s. Running it on 3s is plenty fast enough for my boy, can even pull wheelies on the driveway still with the battery in the tub!



The gmade shock are working great, no big leaks yet, but the gmade oil is not silicone shock oil, it’s like regular gear oil, the shocks smell after a run, I hate the smell of gear oil!



The Losi 22 buggy will have to sit on the bench until the TH gets its own heart.

He is the 3s soft pack I used today, it use to power my foam Corsair warbird ( R.I.P Corsair.....R.I.P. )



Goes in the same way as a 2s shorty hardcase pack.
Fits like a glove.

Gear shift seems to be seized up a bit now, next project will be trans tear down and see what’s going on with the shift mechanism...

One of my twin hammers did the same thing. Ended up being dust worked it's way in between the shift rod and shift rod hole. It mixed with the grease and made a nice sludge to of course cause the shift rod to bind.

It seems to shift OK at first but will bind up after some run time, it will shift every time into low but gets jammed shifting into high.

All I have to do is press lightly on the shift rod to get it fully into high, pretty easy access with my magnetic removable driver figure.

Sounds like what mine was doing though your servo could be getting weak also.

Upgraded to metal gears in the gearbox, in preparation for new brushless set up.

Went with a bit more of a budget friendly hobbywing sensored motor and esc, 10.5 turn motor.
Motor had some rear facing plug in terminals that were just touching the steering servo so I unsoldered them and slotted the terminal so I could run the wires forward.

Pretty happy with how it runs on stock gearing, plenty fast enough for us just on 2S, it will really fly on 3S!

That's a good set up. I think you will be happy with it. I'm planning on getting one of those for my 1.9 wraith again I will be building soon. Looking forward to your test to see how it works for you.

I think it scoots along on the sand pretty darn good as is, in this vid its still only got the 17.5t motor, but in my sons expert sand driving opinion, he says it needs sand paddles on the rear!

we cant wait to hit the sand with the 10.5t motor! 2S is great with the new motor and we have run it once on 3S now and its a screamer! i think it will do wheelies on the sand with paddle tyres!

We have had a bit of run time with the new motor and ESC now, its fast, damn fast on 3S! Too fast really for the chassis/suspension, pretty easy to get out of shape as it wallows around on the suspension haha.

Having said that, on the sand it was awesome!!!!

I was able to test out a buddies HPI sand paws borrowed off his slash and i'm hooked on paddle tyres for the sand, and the sound they make!!!! YEAH.

Im on the hunt for some paddle tyres now, I like the look of the Vaterra Glamis Uno paddles and the plastic beadlocks they go onto, but does anybody know the diameter of these tyres? are they similar in size to the TH RTR tyres?

The specs on Prolines site state 115mm diameter, thats very close to the RTR tyre size. I can live with a few mm difference.

They are a bit bigger, and maybe the wheel offset is a little inboard, so they will rub on the cage in a flex situation.




RTR tyre has clearance





size difference is not so bad when they are all centered on a shaft, ithink it will be just fine for running on the sand.

I think those sand "scoopers" will do right - do you have enough axle thread to run a thicker hex to push the tires away enough to not rub? That may be the only solution...

I was bored the other day and found some 2.2" tires online that would be very entertaining as sand tires on my upcoming Bomber build -the heavyweight rig :

looks like there is enough thread for a spacer, put those massive balloons on your bomber and it will be able to aquaplane!

Looks like the paddles work pretty well! Your son is quite the pilot for a young feller! Watching this makes me want to build another FOFF rig!
