Default '67 Firebird

This has been in our garage since spring of '68 when I was 6 years old.

Took it out for spin last fall before the weather turned.

Nice. Do you have mileage restrictions since its tagged as an antique vehicle?

re-reading what I wrote, it sounds like its sat untouched in the garage for 45 years. Didn't mean to imply that. It's been in the family since '68, was a daily driver for the 1st 20+ years, frame off resto in '80, been in the garage since.

No. My Dad drove it daily from '68-1980. He did a bondo patch job somewhere in the mid '70's but at the time, he worked for general motors & knew it would worth restoring right so he purchase alll new OEM quarter panels, jack instructions, air cleaner stickers, the whole 9 yards & they were in boxes & moved around with us. In 1980, he took it all the way down, frame off restoration & finished it around 1990. It's probably had less than 200 miles on it since then.

Don't know. I have antique plates on my '72 FJ40 & it seemed pretty vauge when I got them. Neither one gets driven enough to really matter. It's convinient to have a one time resgistratioin & not have to hassle with inspection stickers.

Thanks, 326 standard V8. I have a vauge memory of when he bought it. It was used, like 3-4 months, but he wanted the first year & ram air 400, I remember him looking real intently at a pontiac dealer at a '68 red 400 new, white interior/top but he wanted the '67 & 400s in that year were hard to come by, even in 1968.

Pretty sweet ride. I like the fact that OEM parts were used in the resto, much better than repops. The column shift was pretty rare.

Yea, by the time he did the resto, you couldn't get the OEM panels so, yea, cool. didn't realize the column shift was rare. As a kid, it was sort of the un-cool factor that it didn't have a manual tranny or at least a console shifter.

I love that green, maybe it's just nastalgia... it's not a typical "60s" color, like the pale yellow but... that's what it was. I remember a '69 TA Convertable go for 250K at auction around 1999. If I remember right, there were only 9 TA rag tops made, all went to pontiac execs, only a few known to exist still.

Yes, only 8 were made, 4 automatics and 4-4 speeds, all have been accounted for except 1.

That is great DRW!! to have a car in the family for so long! When I had a '65 Mustang I thought I would hang on to it forever (good thing I didn't, it was rusty), now I'm trying to keep my '96 Z28 (had it for 6 years now) so my daughter can drive it sometime (she's 4 )

I hear ya. I've had a few I wish I still had. '68 Impala convertable, '68 Chevelle, '66 442. I did manage to hang on to a '72 Land Cruiser I bought back in the '80s. It's in the garage & I tell my kids they will drive it oneday.
