| Jeep recomendations/things to look for
I'm in the market for a jeep. I found a 92 wrangler, inline 6, 5 speed, small lift and 33's with a hard top and 140xxx miles. I'm waiting for the guy to call me back. Is there specific years to look out for? It won't be used for any hard core wheeling. Just gravel road ridin' and maybe a little puddle jumping. Nothing serious at all. |

Personally I like the TJ best, coils all around and I like the body lines better. They ran from 1997 to 2006. Plus they got round head lights |

I can't remeber for sure but I thought the 92 wrangler had the carburated 4.2 and peugot transmission? If so neither were very good. If you can find one with the fuel injected 4.0L 6 cylinder with the ax15 5 speed you are way better off. More power better fuel mileage and the ax15 is super strong for a jeep tranny. Also If you can find one with a dana 44 rearend you would be golden. The dana 35 rearend that is in most of them are prone to premature bearing failure and axle failure. Hope this helps.

I am also a big fan of the tj. The only year I would stay away from is 2000 it is the first year of the nv3550 which they put behind the 4.0L. I owned one and the tranny was popping out of gear with only 14K on it.

Also, the 4.2 was a awesome motor! It just sucked due to having a carb on it... Sent from my HTC POS tablet using Tapatalk 2

Thanks guys. I appreciate it! Most of th Tj's are way outta my price range. :( I did read onine to stay away from the peugot transmission. It said it was easy to spot because it was triangular shaped. |

Just got off the phone with the guy. The 1st person didn't buy it. So, thursday after work I'm headed to go look at it. It was an older gentleman who restores vehicles. He said he's only had the jeep a few months and that his wife talked him into buying it for her. He was vauge on the description, but said it ran good and the tires were new. No rust on the frame, all guages work and the interior is in good shape. Supposedly there is some small rust on the body. This is the only picture of it: I guess I'll find out thursday what it's like. |

I like the 1991 with a auto trans. The frame is easy to mod for dana 60's and run air shocks. You can also get them pretty cheap.

Looks like a Sahara edition YJ. Guy didn't say what motor was in it? Mileage? Trans?

I thought it looked like a sahara too. It's got a V6, 5 speed, with 140,000 miles. No rust on the frame. Interior is good and has the rear seat. Tires are new and all the guages work. Guess I'll find out tomorrow about 4:30 what it's like in person. It's an hour and a half away from me.

| Re: Jeep recomendations/things to look for I'm pretty sure they only came with a 4.0 V-6 or a 2.5 4 cyl. When I talked with the guy last night he didn't want to go outside and look. In his defense, it was late and friggin' cold here. All he did was read off the title. He's being so vauge I'm worried, but I know if I don't go look at it I will regret it. |

It's a 92 and I went with edmunds specs on the one they had listed: 1992 Jeep Wrangler Sahara What's it Worth? From what you had listed the Jeep falls into the 91-95 catergory. So it's got the 4.0? I dunno. I'll find out for sure tomorrow. Oh, and thanks for the link to that forum. I will check it out! Last edited by sosume; 03-06-2013 at 11:00 AM. |

Dude stay away from that one.. Champaign color = lemon. I don't know about wranglers but on cherokees we would always look for the np231 transfer case. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |

How do you know you're getting the NP231 transfer case or the AX-15 transmission?

I hope it's white. lol. Is the transfer case an issue if I don't plan on doing any crawling or hard core wheeling with it? I seriously doubt I ever lift it more than it is. Heck, I probably won't drive it much anyway. Maybe a couple times a month on gravel roads...... if it's nice out.

Check the frame very carefully. They rust out at the rear spring hanger right at the back bumper and crack beside the power steering pump. Pull the carpets and check the floor boards. The drive train will usually outlast the body. straight from my mind to tapatalk |
