Ok, so tonight we got the lights 90% completed. We just have some final "pretty" wiring to complete, and then shoe-goo the whole mess into the body. Last edited by fanke19; 07-12-2010 at 05:39 AM. |

The Jeep you saw was my 1.9 scaler...basically just an AX10 lowered and shortened the wheelbase to fit the Wrangler body. That truck doesn't have all the drama (and emotions) attached to it that this GMC does. |

Update...July 28, 2010 Suspension: The Losi aluminum shocks are now mounted, and new mounting locations have been drilled in the SCX10 chassis. The spring rates are a little light right now with all the weight moved forward...still have to figure someway to boost capacity slightly up front with less "sag". Steering: The frame mounted servo conversion is 90% complete. I just need to complete the steering linkage and do some test drives to see if we're going to require a panhard bar...I hope not to need one. Lighting/Wiring: The wiring is completed for the lighting in the truck, including an on-off switch and a headliner mocked up to help hide the wiring in the cab. Winch: The winch is now functional thanks to my dad upgrading his radio to a new Spectrum DX3R Battery/Electronics Tray: The new servo mount up front gave me a nice location to base my radio/battery tray on. I now have plenty of room for all the electronics including the full size 5000mah Lipo for hours of trail driving fun. I will have to get some new pics...maybe later today. |

The chrome trim is that pinstriping you see at the auto parts store. My stuff came with the thick stripe (.125") next to the thin stripe (.062") so I just peeled off the thin stripe and threw it away. The best part is, the particular brand I bought came with a spare "swatch" of material in a sheet...about 2"x3" so I used an xacto knife to cut out the front "U-shaped" trim piece.

It's been a long time since I've updated...been busy with other builds now that we got this thing 90% done. Haha...isn't that the way?! Never finishing anything 100% before moving on?! Anyway, I decided "what the hell" and did another search online during my lunch hour for the sneaky GMC "Heavy Half" pictures that I have been in search of...and I got lucky! Now that I found these pics, I can export them and finally get the stickers ordered up from zazzle.com for the printed multi-color stuff. I already ordered a "test" decal that came in the mail a few days ago...I drew up a bunch of one inch squares that were scaled up 10% from each other to give me a good idea when it's printed at the press, how out of scale it is. Now I can overlay this artwork and should be able to get pretty reliable results. I figure I'll order some licence plate decals and other small window decals while I'm at it...I'll be able to fit alot on their 3"x11" bumper stock. |

Thanks for the kind words. I used tons of pictures off the internet, and I used AutoCAD with some of them to help layout the size and scale of the decals. Plus, I'm sending these decals off in not just one size, but multiples that are scaled 5% up and down from one another...it takes some time, but it pays off in the end when you end up with just the right look. My work is hack-ish compared to some of the craftsmen on this board...but I like this stuff. As far as the Ram hood ornament, no I haven't seen anything like that. It would be so small in 10th scale, it's hard to imagine being able to create much detail. Closest thing I can think of...is maybe start with a metal ball stud, and a dremel tool or air grinder with an assortment of small grinding bits and stones. It's possible you could wittle something pretty close! It would be cool to see how close you could get to the original...let me know. Last edited by fanke19; 03-27-2011 at 02:57 PM. |
