Default MRC TJ build

Ive been looking for a new fj body for quite a while now and was pretty stoked when I found this one on eBay. After some research I decided it would work for a mrc axle based build. Orders the body. Also picked up a rtr mrc for dirt cheap.
Last night it all showed up and needless to say it was a little narrower then I thought it would be. What do you guys think should I try to build it with mrc axles or try and run some micro axles? Tire and wheel combo is 1.55 voids and the baja mtz from rc4wd.

Well due to the size of th fj body I decided to scrap using it and just put it back up on eBay for sale. It's only got a 7" wheelbase and at 4 1/2" wide it's just too small. I picked up a NewBright jeep wrangler earlier this week so this build is going to turn into a tj build instead of a cruiser build. Heres what the cruiser looked like on my standard chassi.

Here's the jeep body I got

And this is what I'm shooting for it to look like. Hoping the 1.55 iroks will pull it all together.

No the 1/10th has like a 10" wb or close to that. Maybe 11

I wonder if that fj would have worked on a trail trekker

What's a trail trekker? It was about 7" wheelbase and only 4 3/4" wide I should have done a little more research before I bought it.

Picked up my axles for this rig yesterday. Using a set of ax10 solid axles. I started with a complete ax10.

After about 20 mins I had a pile of parts.

Hopefully my tj body will show up this week along with my chassi so I can get started roughing everthing together.

Started building the frame rails today. Took some 1/2x1/2x.095 tube bent it to my wheelbase. I'll drill all the
Mounting holes for the stuff that needs to be the same on both sides then take it to the bandsaw and cut it length ways to create two mirrored c channel frame rails.

this is a Trail Trekker. it's by Losi. I think it would be too small for the body though.

Thanks!

So my original plan was to use a scx10 dingo chassi but the more and more I thought about it I'm going to build my own suspension and chassi. So I pulled out my 4link calculator and went to work on the rear. Rear wil be a dual triangulated 4 link the front will be a true three link with panhard bar. Wheelbase is 10 3/4". Should have a 1 3/4" belly height at ride height.

That cruiser is exactly what I was hoping to build but the body was too small so I'm opting to build a jeep. I'm having a hell of a time getting my frame rails bent right. I'm going to hold off till the body shows up before I try again. Right now I'm waiting on parts to show up, my tires, shocks, transfer case and servo are being delivered.

I need to have the mods change this to "mrc tj build". But until then I will keep posting. I got my body today finally after two weeks of waiting.

So I got to work on finishing my frame after about an hour I had it how I wanted it.

A quick trip to my parents house to use my dads bandsaw and pow! I have two frame rails.

Now here's where things got mixed up. I was planning on using scx10 axles but they were just way to wide for the body. I have a set of mrc axles so I figured what the hell I'll give these a shot and with some wider hexes they should work perfect. This jeep is supposed to look like a mildly built trail rig. So I got to work on the rear 4 link. This is where I ended the evening.

I'm going to have to make a few changes to my design. With using the mrc axles il going to have to use a axle mounted steering servo just due to lack of room for a panhard bar. And I think I'm going to have to rethink my shocks.

Any comments or critics is appreciated. I'm new to this still learning as I go.

Made some more little progress today. For my cage mounts made. Was able to use the stock plastic cage mount spots for my mounts. Just some 1/2" cold rolled round cut in 1/8" lengths and drilled with a 3mm bolt brazed into them. The bolt will go down through the body with a washer and a nut on the underside to secure it to the body.

Then I got to start on the fun stuff, building the cage. After about 20 pictures from my buddy Todd I had a good idea how to copy his 1:1 cage. Got the a pillar bent up.

Hoping tomorrow and Friday I can get the cage knocked out then this weekend I can start body work.
