| 50's willy's pickup build.
Figured I'd throw a thread up on here. I was graciously given this body by a member over on another forum, it's a 50' styrene willys body and bed. These are his pics, since the body is currently still in transit to me. My plan for this rig is a class 1, stock looking rig. Something you'd see as a daily driver, I will build a full interior, stock looking from/rear bumpers. Still going over paint schemes, but i'm leaning towards red, with the recessed door panels painted white. Which ever color I go with, it will be a gloss paint job. I ordered a set of 1.55 white steel rc4wd landies, and a set of 1.55 mickey Thompson MTZ's to wrap around them. Chassis will be a custom steel c-channel frame, with leafs that n00b built awhile back ( thanks desert rc!) Axles will be K44's Will be using rc4wd's Old man emu shocks, with black shock boots for the stock look. Will keep it really simple mechanically, probably just an rc4wd r2 mounted directly on the frame, no t-case. These are the only pics I have for now, will update once the parts start to arrive. I'm looking forward to this build! |

Couple items arrived today, the chassis, and the wheels/tires. I went with the 1.55 landies, and 1.55 MTZ's for the stock look. The wheels by them selves are scale, but you know I cant leave anything alone The 1.55 landies use m2 screws, however lockeduprc doesn't carry m2 acorn nuts, I had stainless steel 2-56 cap heads and 2-56 acorn nuts from hillbilly, so I put them to use. I needed to drill out the hubs on the wheels a little bit so the 2-56 screws would fit, but in the end, i'm very pleased Here's the result, Here's a shot of the back, can't even tell I did anything, Will get a couple shots of the chassis in a bit. |

Got the body today! Everything looks awesome. Spent a couple hours today modifying the chassis, needed to take about 12mm out of the width. I think i'm going to go with the wood bed, if I use the pickup bed, i'll need to shorten the chassis roughly an inch. I need opinions, to get the look i'm after, I'm going to need a 5 1/2"-6" wide axles... besides an MRC axle, any other axles out there that are that wide? Heres roughly the ride height i'm going after, maybe another 1/4" and Ill be golden. Very rough mockup on the look i'm going after, Shot of the chassis, |

Well, I'm pretty much at a stand still until I get enough funds to buy the axles( decided on a set of custom width GCM metalheads). So I've been working little details here and there, painted the styrene slats on the bed to mimic aluminum, and built a couple bumpers front and rear. Yay, bigger pictures! Installed the bumpers with Lockeduprc's hex bolts, I drilled the holes, then used the hex bolts to cut threads into the chassis, didn't strip the heads, or damage the threads of the bolts, these little things are tough! Here's a shot with the dummy winch I plan on putting on it, Last edited by scale4x4; 01-06-2014 at 09:51 AM. |
