Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Well, she's a runner! We have an event this weekend and I'd really like this rig to be running by then. It's only tentatively wired at the moment with the bare essentials: no winches, no BEC, no bumpers/sliders, etc. But I wanted to get it running because I wanted to test out the Dinky Divorce kit. Is the gearing going to be okay? Is the motor going to run hot? Is there going to be any binding? So I got it running (on 3s for now) and I'm happy to report the rig seems to have very good low speed resolution and good top speed, too. The only issue I can really think of is that it's pretty loud. I suspect the issue is that I'm running a metal "spur" gear in the Gr7 unit under the hood. I will probably put a plastic gear in there to quiet it down. Other than that, I'm very encouraged by this setup! Hopefully tomorrow I can take it in to the backyard and try it on some rocks....instead of crawling over my shoes in the living room. :lmao: It's just like a funny car! :ror: http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...0_203357-L.jpg The temp. wiring: http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...0_203411-L.jpg http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...0_203417-L.jpg I also bedlined the interior. http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...0_203522-L.jpg |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Looks great Tommy! "thumbsup" Keep us posted on the magnets and how they do in a rollover/tumble, curious to see how it fares with them holding down the lid. |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep I gotta say one thing you got that front packed tight. Thers no way I could get that in there. Looks good! |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Oh, one more thing, you need to figure out how to recline those darn bucket seats. :ror: |

Just think what that will do for all your electronics. :lmao: While were at it, how about an EMP cannon on the front or back of a Wraith? "thumbsup" |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Dean, you crazy!! :lmao: |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep What about 3M Dual Lock instead of magnets? It's a strong fastener like Velcro but more heavy duty. It's sold in black and clear. Sorry if it was already suggested. "thumbsup" http://blog.applebazaar.com/wp-conte.../12/blocks.jpg |

Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep So I got to run the Jeep today. I was quite surprised 'cause it performed really well! I figured the extra rear weight from the cage would really hurt its performance, but not so much. I think I may even gear it up for a bit more speed. Although, it's tempting to just keep it the way it is and try 4s. We'll see... Anyway, here's a couple pics from today... http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...2_115252-L.jpg http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...2_115433-L.jpg http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...2_115445-L.jpg |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Looking good! "thumbsup" Who stole the bumpers? :ror: |

Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Jeep looks sweet. I like the way the cage turned out. Where did you get that air tank? I need one I those for my build. "thumbsup" to 4 cell. The main reason I'm going to the roc 412 over another Pro 4 is the 412 can handle 4 cell. |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Looks good Tommy. Glad to see you back in the game. Another month or so and my new shop will be done and I am looking for a new C1 build myself to replace the current TF2. |

Regarding my magnet idea, I think it's looking pretty good. It was a non-issue crawling over the weekend. Granted, I didn't abuse the truck, but it did flop a few times and even did an endo, but the body held pretty securely. Nonetheless, I know it's just a matter of time before those relatively weak magnets become an issue. Over the weekend I took delivery of some new magnets that are about the size of a penny. I stacked 5 of them on the chassis as shown. I glued one to the underside of the body. The reason I used 6 magnets is simply because that gave me the height I needed to put the body where I wanted it. http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...4_071837-L.jpg Are they strong enough now? I think so.... http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...4_071901-L.jpg |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Very cool |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Awesome build tommy like the magnet idea. Have a build I think I'm gonna use that on. |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep JeremyH put together a video from this past weekend. https://vimeo.com/57653973 |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep For a guy who's driven that Hummer so much you wouldn't expect him to be such a Nancy on that side hill.... The Jeep looks great Tommy and also looks like it drives stable. Lets see some details... Bumpers lights etc. "thumbsup" |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Looks like the LJ runs pretty good Tommy"thumbsup" LOL! @ E's Mogmarine.....poor thing! |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Quote:
Details are definitely coming. First I need to finish fab work. But in general, here's what's left: - rear bumper/winch mount - front bumper/winch mount - rock sliders (probably chassis mounted) - paint flares - replace front seats - determine how I want to address the extension in the rear quarters, i.e. polish them to match the ABS or build body armor to cover it - and I may even move the front axle in a little bit So lots left to do. 8) Quote:
It was funny watching Eric abuse his rig. :ror: |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Like the others said, looks like it performed really well. Looking forward to the updates. 8) |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Might have missed it but what is the wheelbase of the LJ? Looks killer. |

Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Updates! And my apologies for the pics. They look rather fuzzy for some reason. Got some bling in the mail from RPP yesterday. These are the 110mm length, but I think the 100's may have been a better choice. These limit my bump travel by a few millimeters and I'm not sure if all the droop travel will be a good thing. Testing will be coming... http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...0_213406-L.jpg The springs are also a bit tall. Does anyone know if these springs are available in different lengths or rates? Looks like a pre-runner! Axial springs look to fit, but I'd like to keep them the same color. http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...0_213555-L.jpg Got the rear bumper finished and installed. http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...0_213506-L.jpg Very simple mount for the rear winch. It's attached directly to the body's underside and slides right between the frame rails. Now I just need to bend up some tube for routing the winch line and it'll be done. http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...0_213423-L.jpg |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Mr. LockedUpRC himself took some pics from our last get together and here they are. Thanks, Patrick! "thumbsup" BTW, that's his black H2 in some of the pics. Can you tell which one of us is waterproofed? :lmao: http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...DSCN0020-L.jpg http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...DSCN0004-L.jpg http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...DSCN0007-L.jpg http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...DSCN0011-L.jpg http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...DSCN0014-L.jpg http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...DSCN9997-L.jpg |
My buddy used the original rc4wd duel spring shocks and used mini-t springs to soften them up. I don't know if these are the same diameter as the old ones though. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2 |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Wow Tommy, this thing looks great! Glad to see you built another Jeep. I was shocked when you got rid of the TJ, it ran so well. Looks like this one is a worker too 8) You always do some fantastic builds my friend "thumbsup" |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep The jeep looked like it performed good in the vid. Those wheels look great on there and the stance is perfect!, also you got my vote on the body armor I would do it in black! Waiting on front bumper. Keep up the great work! |

I've been dying to do another run up "the ascent" like we did some time back! "thumbsup" |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep I used losi mini lst spring and losi mrc blue spring on mine. They are a little soft but but a little oil fixed the bouncyness. |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Quote:
Speaking of the front bumper, I should make some progress tonight. I had an issue I noticed yesterday where the front of the body wasn't exactly lined up properly with the chassis. This would've become painfully obvious after I built a bumper. So I had to remove the magnet under the hood and reposition it in the right location. That's all done now so hopefully I can get back to work on the bumper tonight. The issue is that I want a little, stubby bumper, but C1 rules mandate the bumper be as wide as the windshield. So I'll have to compromise what I want for what is legal. Maybe I'll make two bumpers....one legal bumper and one good looking bumper! :ror: |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Sick Jeep man! Cant believe i didnt see this before. I guess i spend way too much time in the 1.55 section. I love it! Any plans for rocker protection? |
Re: Tommy's Class 1 Jeep Quote:
So it's between rocker protection like this: http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...IMG_8140-L.jpg Or like this (but tucked in a bit better): http://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stuf...IMG_1758-L.jpg |
