OK so I was bored today and decided I didnt really like the still too high stance of the Hilux. I had a few options and one was to drill up and chino mod some OG Bruiser leaf springs, so I did just that. I also reversed the front hangers and shackles. I really like the stance now and the scale flex. I feel the height is just perfect. I drove it around the garage for a few minutes climbing over some stacks of weight plates and random stuff. All the vibrating is gone and this thing is ready for Sag Harbor tomorrow (1BJB)!!!

Onto some pics. 1st pic of the truck is the OLD ride height with Hi Lift springs, for comparison.

Thanks man. I really like the way it sits now and the flex is VERY scale. I hope the weather holds up for today! Hopefully we can get some nice pics.

Well it is official. The Hilux has scratches and some war wounds...(lost a windshield wiper) Who does that???

It faired well but the 20t pinion was too much wheel speed and not enough power. A lot of fun and the Bruiser springs are breaking in just fine now"thumbsup"

Mike got some great video of this one and his clone so I hope he posts up soon.

1BJB and I are going to make some sliders for it hopefully this week.

Anyway some pics from todays first real run of the yota...

lol nice losing the wiper, that was one of the first things i lost at nats. looks excellent and it will only get better when you soften up those springs.

OK a quick teaser of the new sliders. Not painted up yet but in place and they are KILLER in my opinion, thanks to Mike. Hopefully next week will be front/rear bumpers.

Thanks again Mike!!!

I am reworking the steering so it is minus the front end right now"thumbsup"

Thanks, my first time brazing. Mike let me actually braze one spot. That was fun! He did the rest though and did a great job!

Thank you. I like the performance of the Crazy Crawlers but I am not CRAZY about the look of them.

Two things... first.. this truck looks AWESOME... I have a Trailinder on the way (should ship in a couple of days if it hasnt shipped already).. and I believe I'll be making a Toyota body...

second... with all the Toyotas out there, someone should make scale wheel wells and ssel them... even if they are molded from thick lexan... or do they already and I haven't found them yet?

1BadJeepBruiser 09-29-2008 02:22 PM

Cant wait to see how they look with some paint on them "thumbsup"

gyrene 09-30-2008 12:03 PM

Thanks for the compliments! As for wheel wells most people make their own. I have cut up old tires in the past and I have seen some people use pvc caps cut up or tupperwear

OK a little more work on the Yota. I was having some clearance issues in the front and the flex was not even close to 100%. I reversed the steering knuckles and put the steering linkage in front of the axle. Flex is much better now and so is the steering. I will prob paint the steering links black but I just anted to make sure everything lined up first. Also upgraded to an aluminum servo arm (horn) whatever. I like the Integy wheels but I wanted something a little more offroad so I added some TSS rock rings. I actually really like how they look on there. I am painting up the sliders now and a few surprise additions to this rig in the future"thumbsup"

Sliders!!!

Sliders painted up and installed! I used this method http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/tools-procedures/125495-poor-mans-powder-coating.html to "powdercoat" them. Came out good. Real test will be how they hold up on the rocks.

Lighting isnt the greatest for pics. Ill get some better outdoor shots on the rocks this weekend in Sag Harbor.

Thanks again 1BJB for the brazing help!
