You may want to get a new body if you are going for scale as it looks like the fender wheels are cut too large for the 1.9s.

I did an early Bronco convertible and was going to duplicate the coils, but in the end just 4-linked the front. It still looks like coils, and was easy to set up. I used leafs in the rear.

You are going for leafs, right? ;)

thanks moto. will get some more out.

Mas,

yes, I do agree, they seem high. I am going to leave body for now, but the good thing is I wont have to put the body high on frame. I should probably wait to see how it turns out since i am going to attempt to build cab, motor compartment with a scale motor, etc. thanks man. I like your fenders too.

I am running leafs in rear. going to take more pics soon.

Looks cool, but I think those coils are going to give you trouble. It may not, just make sure you've got them fastened down.

My idea was to use a PVC pipe cap as the top bucket...the spring would actually go inside it and sort of "guide" it. I was worried about them swaying under the weight and twisting.

Another thing you may want to consider is setting up the rear shocks as droop if they have springs in them. This way you can lower the top mounting point and make room for the bed a little easier. I would suggest making a top mount that was in front of the axle.

It doesn't have to be elaborate...just a bolt will work:

This will give you all the room you need to build your bed area:

I have a build thread in the 2.2 section that may help you out and give you ideas...I hope it's not coming off as trying to tell you how to build your rig! ;)

Awesome rig.....
I had started building a Bronco with front coils, but ended up using my FJ-40 body instead. But left the front coil spring setup....as it worked great.

Hotrod & Masc..., Thanks guys! Awesome opinions and suggestions.

where and what size pipe caps?

more pics would be nice, hard to see for me stuff that is not there. I see how the bed could work if i move the shocks. for now I am just mounting everything than going to do some moving and tweaking.

I would have to bolt the brakeline to the alum frame and than the syrene i will do after I am thinking would make sense. looking to start some tube work. i have an engine I am going to build for the front so maybe start that first. ??

the coils seem good, but I could have issues though. How did you hotrod get yours to stay?

thanks again guys.

You can use whatever cap fits your coil...looks like what HotRod did on the lower part.

Looking at your pics...can you bolt the rear shock mount where the rear crossmember goes? seems it would be a better angle for the shocks.

I made the lower coil buckets from pipe and welded in a "floor", which has a pair of holes to mount it to the Axial axle. You can't see in the pics, but there is a roll pin that is installed to keep the spring in the bucket. There are also smaller pipe "bungs" that the spring fits over on the top coil "hats" and small zip ties hold the springs.

okay. so just move forward than the top of the shock. I will mess around with it.

Yes you can braze sheetmetal...but it'll warp on ya....shouldn't have a problem though with such a small area welding it to the pipe. Home Depot has the pipe....black pipe in the plumbing department. I'm thinkin' 1/8"? I always have that stuff laying around my place, so I forget the size. And I really didn't take close-up pics of the buckets during the build..doh!?!

Caged FJ-40 build

okay. I am going to start my tube work, look into the caps, and start my first attemp at brazing and see what happens. I was in the plumbing dept yesterday. I will look harder. thanks.
