It begins! I felt it was time to feed the scale urge that seems to rekindle itself in me every 2.6 weeks or so. Hmmmm, something different, something cool, with lots of tubing perhaps. Havent seen a Tamiya XR311 custom rig yet, so off we go! Built up some TLT axles with bearings. I did the general minimal assembly of the XR body, since I'll be hacking on it. Hmmm, my standard scale frame rails arent going to fit very well this time if I want to keep the body mostly intact. Looks like an integrated frame will have to be built. I definately dont want the body to 'sit up' on top of a chassis. I want it low and mean, but lots of center clearance. Pede tranny looks like it should fit in there lay-down style. Git 'im Dremy! Bzzzzzzzzz. Began welding frame. Bzzzzfraaaapppzzzz! Fitting like a glove so far! Added the rear chassis/shock mounts. Kydex extended servo/link mount. Rear end linked. I had to cut away a bunch of the rear of the XR to make room for the proportionally large meats. Front end linked and servo mounted. The tubing needs to be welded to the frame, but the body also has to be able to come off to access the inner goodies. Time to start bending! Bend! Some super-coolness. Narrowed Imex Claw Dawgs on Front Narrow 2.2" Dark Impact wheels. Stay tuned for more burning masking tape and flat black primer! RYan |

Great idea Ryan, always thought the XR had potential as more than a collector's piece. I love this hobby. Next we'll cut up a NIB Sand Scorcher |

For everyone saying those look like Nylint tires, stop. Now. They look like Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. Nylint tires look like the Baja Claws. Fun Rise didn't invent a new tread alright? I'm sorry to be so harsh, but it's driving me nuts. PS. Truck is going to look killer. Can't wait to see it done. Last edited by mrwonderful; 06-15-2006 at 07:14 AM. |
