| "Hendertucky" trail/KOH tube buggy (scrapped the f100) ///Major change of plans, see post #67\\\ i live in Henderson, NV. a suburb of Las Vegas. Las Vegas natives fondly refer to it as Hendertucky, because in the 70s and 80s it was nothing but trailer parks, a rocket fuel factory (google "pepcon") and a few used car dealerships. i tried to quit, i sold almost everything, i told myself "no more RC builds, it's time for something new." that lasted a few months... i was down to just a tuber, a fun little rig that didnt fit into any class, wasn't at all scale and performed pretty well for costing me nothing to build. then a week or so ago i found out about a new scaler club here in vegas, i figured this would be trouble. i watched their videos, checked out their facebook page and met up with them at one of our local crawl spots yesterday morning. that was all it took, as soon as i got home that tuber was torn apart and project Hendertucky started. my goal is to spend as little as possible and use as much of the spare crawler shit in my garage as possible. so today i headed out to the garage and looked through all my old RC junk stashed out there. yes its a mess, i'm working on that. started out by bending up some frame rails out of 1/2" square tube and digging out an old F100 body. started disassembling the tuber, all of the drive train and electronics will be used on the F100. got the frame rails all squared up and brazed in a couple of cross members notched the rails like the SCX10's are to clear the servo. (yes i'm being lazy and leaving it on the axle, if it eventually bothers me enough i'll chassis mount it.) mocked it up, it'll sit at 12" of WB. even found a CF-100 interior for it! this is where i'm at right now. i need to make/find/buy a skid plate so i can figure out where the trans needs to be mounted and start on the links. Ha ha I have told myself that same thing over the past 30 years. Dont fight it you cant win. The early Ford body is looking good, a few drivers I know have used them for builds, nice

I needed a skid plate and luckily, I found one. It's been used a few times before so it's got like 20 holes in it but I don't care. Mounting it between the frame rails wasn't gonna work, drivelines and links would be too steep. I've seen guys do this with SCX-10 frames, so I figured I'd do it too. Not entirely happy with the placement, might make some adjustments. I ran out of mapp gas so I'll have to wait til I get more. Also started on links. Probably the only bling parts on the rig, rocksmith Ti links left over from another build. |
