nice, i like the universal you made from the tranny to the tcase..should make for a smoother ride..will do to mine
make sure you set your endpoints just right on your steering or you will snap your axle case and ya the shocks are poop
very nice build

I have some different springs to try, and have the RC4WD front universals installed. Hopefully that will keep anything from snapping on the axle cases. If they do, I'll be forced to throw more $ at this and go metal!!

Finally a running chassis. Even with a 21T motor, this thing is pretty slow... but quite scale I'd say.

Got the front bumper assembled. What a pain it was to mount that winch!!!! So hard to drill the holes in the proper place, and get the screws in there. Plus the location of the screws for the lights was a real pain as well! Bumper done, but will need to fabricate something to attach it to the Gelande chassis rails.

Entire inside of body painted flat black. Will make the light colored seats pop! Now need to wetsand and clearcoat!

I have a 35T on order, but honestly at full speed, it's slower than a walk. This thing is geared so low I actually think I may keep the 21T in there. Was going to put a 27T silver can, but it doesn't fit the RC4WD planetary gearbox.

Pretty easy to change motors though, so I may try the 35T when it comes in.

Ok I see, was thinking that is pretty warm for a scaler. But if it's geared low then should be good, might help with a bit of wheel speed. Time will tell i guess once you get some miles on it.

Cheers

Yes, I've driven the chassis around, and it crawls pretty well, while still having a semblance of "Top speed". Hahaha...

FINALLY got the bumper completed. Between drilling and mounting the winch and lights, to adding mesh, to fabricating steel brackets to bolt to the frame, it's taken me as long to build this bumper as it did to paint the body! AGH!

More progress...

Yeah the green Gelande I posted earlier has a 35t in it and compared to my scx10 with the 27t Holmes its a bit comical. Hardly enough wheelspin to clean the tires or make certain climbs.

4 coats of clear and now the body must sit and cure for a while! Before a wetsand and polish!

More updates, starting to add details to the body. Found out that Tamiya F201 springs fit these shocks perfectly, so I have quite a variety of springs to choose from, as I have an extensive F201 collection.

Photos...

brilliant! love the attention to detail. Your paint work is excellent. Nice job on that grill for the bumper, turned out exactly like a 1:1 with the welding on the edges. fantastic.

looking awesome. Whats lefts to do apart from the lighting?

cheers

Thumbs up Re: RC4WD Gelande Defender build

Man that paint job is sick! I really like the motor setup as well, I purchased a d90 body Myself, but cut it into a pickup cab for a flat bed. Nice rig!

Still have to add some scale junk, along with some straps/chains, etc. Need to attach the roof rack after I polish the body a little more. Add exhaust pipe, antennas, etc. Then onto the lights, and to attach the interior. Right now most of the stuff is just sitting in place and not attached.

Cheers,

More progress with the lights. I will have to install 12 lights. I broke the part that goes over the license plate, so I made one that can have a light behind it shining down on the plate.
Cage is bolted on, as is the rear spare tire, and snorkle. Only a few little parts left to install, then I have to bolt and wire it all together. It's mega heavy!!! HAhaha...
