So I have a SCX10 that I built some time ago but decided I wanted something a bit different than a 'Honcho'. Was working up some ideas when I ran across R2J's Clod truggy that he had up for sale... so without further ado.. ![]()
Just some shots of the original build... Another shot from the rear, you can sorta see the suspension limiting strap. Shots of the Clod truggy from R2J.. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by thzero; 07-21-2013 at 04:28 PM. |

Have been working on mounting the SCX10 gearbox and transfer case. Initially I was going to mount it as such all the while using the HandsBro CMS. ![]() However do to clearance issues between the motor and the servo, the motor and the hood, and the gear and the hood/interior (can only run either an 80t really), I had to bail on using the cross piece on top of the chassis rails. Not to mention, having issues with mounting the transfer case so it will actually sit on the skid plate. I've pulled out the plastic cross brace that goes between the shock mounts and have swapped my cross piece/motor mount to be slung underneath the chassis rails. This has, at least theoretically, allowed me to move the motor/gearbox/mount assembly forward and lower which is solving all my clearance problems. And I am pretty certain it won't interfere with the driveline or 3-link suspension. In order to do so I ended up having to fab up a CMS servo mount so that the servo can be mount perpendicular to the chassis rather than parallel. And a new pandhard bar mount for the chassis. |

| ![]() ![]() Considering the state of the body and the way my buddy Trey's Class 1 Clod (JHTreyIII's Class 1 Build - 1981 Chevy Pickup) came out.. ![]() ...definitively planning on more of the 'junker' look as it progresses. |

Chassis looks great!! Where is the winch going to sit? Could you dump the steering servo's 'front-rear' mounting location and turn it cross-wise towards the front? |

I dig the junker look! It looks more scale! Not sure I've ever seen a 1:1 crawler that had a perfect paint job and wasn't all beat up. Especially if it was built from an 80's model truck. Cool rig man, can't wait to see this one running.

Well here I have the CMS (yes I realize in the pic its upside down), the GripFab mount/motor/gearbox, and GCM diff all setup. Looks great if I do say so myself! ![]() |

Looks good Chris ![]() Remember, when in doubt bolt it on with a servo mount! ![]() |

Well got some work done on the Clod. Finished up the electronics box made out of Radio Shack project box. Basically its going to sit on the truggy cage with some diamond plate attached to it as a 'tool box'. Prepared the project box for my wiring... ![]() Wiring pigtails... ![]() Wiring leads pigtails inserted into the project box... these are glued in with some plastic epoxy. I'll run some silicon or dielectric grease on the inside just to be sure. ![]() Mostly wired up. Had to stop because I found out my BR-XL is dead, so gotta send it in for repairs... ![]() Basically the CastleCreations BEC, the receiver, the 3racing winch controller, and light controller (the thing at the very bottom) go into the box. It ends up being a pretty tight fit, especially do the light controller which allows brake, headlights, fog lights, right and left turn, and four auxiliary lights! I'm only using the brake, headlights and three of the four auxiliary lights (at least eventually as I figure out what to do about a metal light bar). Last edited by thzero; 06-19-2012 at 06:44 PM. |

So I needed somewhere to hang some lights on the front bumper because I don't plan on running a grill. I had found some weldable hanger things on RCP when I was ordering some new diffs... anyways, here is before I started.. ![]() And after... ![]() Didn't come out too bad; wasn't too hard to do. Biggest thing was trying to find someway to hold the hangers in the right position. Used a helping hand but screwed up a couple of alligator clips doing it because the clip, and especially the spring, got way too hot. ![]() Will need to come up with a different way of doing it. |

Didn't know this chassis was still around...glad to see it being closer to use. When I saw your new servo set-up I was going to mention body clearance issues. I built a tight bumper once and the last part to install was the chassis mounted servo only to find all my hard work and design thwarted by the servo not having clearance with the body. Interested to see what you are doing with the lighting....Looks like it will be good. btw the front bumper was done so well I was planning on doing something similar on my clod crew.... as I had pics from when he built it. Now that I see you have a active build I will try to be a bit different. This should be a good build for sure. ![]() |

Since we've got a couple of Clods in the club and even though mine is a truggy, thought I'd do something different so I did up a hood scoop like I've seen on some real red-neck rigs. ![]() ![]() |

looks badass with the hoodscoop. for metal holding I use either a magnet(red medium right angle style from harbor freight) or some metal clamps (orange rubber handled from harbor freight) that can handle the heat with the rubber tip covers pulled off. ![]() links to these tools on harbor freight. 4-3/4'' Multipurpose Magnet Holder 2" Capacity Steel Spring Clamp |

Well, bit more progress... inner fender wells. And inside the truck. Just using the plastic hoops for mockup, probably will switch to some aluminum ones; we'll see. |
