Default chevy prerunner/trophy truck build

This my build thread for my chevy trophy truck. i want to build a fast, scale (ish), long travel rig. i allready had a venom servo and transission. i modded the transmission to be able to have a switch from 2x4 to 4x4. i also had a remote and speed control.

first i bought front diff traxxas revo 3.3, then axial scx 10 chassis.

[IMG][/IMG]
i bought a traxxas slash short corse chevy silverado body and some 6 lug wheels.

then i went out and bought some sheet medal for welding, and a 90 degree angle aluminum ( from home depto)
[IMG][/IMG]
next i will be making front independent suspension arms. and mockups

more to come latter. hope yall enjoy

i cut out arms from the sheet metal, got some little hinges, and put it together.

i also have some knuckles i put on

well i ordered an axial wraith axle, traxxas revo front driveshaft for independent suspension. and some shocks. they look good. they are 120mm shocks so it will give me plenty of travel and its metal. look sweet too.
[IMG][/IMG]

from what i have seen, this is the first rc trophy truck pre-runner to have a metal chassis like this. i plan on using a 12 turn traxxas motor. and as big of a pinion like 32 or something. i want it to be fast but i don't know how fast it will go with this crawler transmission. we will just have to see i guess. wouldn't be any fun without trial and

Well another update. first I was able to cut and grind away the metal with it staying strong and I am able to put the front differential on.[IMG][/IMG]

I was surprised yesterday with a package. It was my axle housing and the end caps looks pretty awesome.

I have to admit this thing is coming along good and looks really good.

i had a question? i was thinking of using the traxxas titan 12 turn motor from a slash or something. how water proof are they? i want to be able to go through puddles i know im not gonna be able to submerge it ;( but any suggestions? do y'all know how fast i might get it with like a 32 pinion and a 12 turn, on a crawler transmission?

Brushed motors work just fine under water. Just oil the bearings when you are done. As for the gear ratio, why not just match the final gear ratio of a slash?

Man I am totally digging your build. I love the rear arms bro!! Mad respect for home brew r/c's! HR shocks are hit and miss so be careful with their stupid grommets and o-rings when assembling. Easiest shock I ever put together are the new Junfacs Xo's too bad they have plastic caps but scale and super smooth!!

You can check em out in my Tundra SCX10 build thread in my sig below:

Its not the trans its the axle gears that really slow it down. Brushed motors work just fine under water, but they fry in muddy/ gritty water where crap gets in them. Titan 12t motors are cheap so play with them until you figure out your gearing so as not to waste a good motor. And may I suggest a Holmes hobbies brxl waterproof ESC. Invest in some liquid electrical tape and all of your rigs can be waterproof. Hope this helps man. And awesome rig idea.

Nice start!

Still trying to figure out how you were able to incorporate one of these into your front suspension design.

Cool Re: chevy prerunner/trophy truck build

progress update. i got the rear suspension mounted. i used an old pair of shocks also i put a short but stiff spring in them so if i max out the suspension it will slow down and not slam it. i definitely got a lot of travel out of it i am happy.

this is it maxed out [IMG][/IMG]

this is in the middle probably normal ride hight [IMG][/IMG]

this is with body on, tucking [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

this is the droop [IMG][/IMG]i got plenty of that too haha.

this is just mock up pics. its looking good.
[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

so what do you guys think? what do yall think i should do differently? any words of advice? what would yall rate it at? i really wanna know what yall think!? anyways hope yall are enjoying i know i have lots of views.
its coming along nicely. i am still waiting on the front driveshafts, i think the guy on ebay ripped me off but ill give him a little longer. but i really wanna get the front done... enjoy!!

The rear links are cool, but I have a feeling they are gonna be a weak link in the system IMO. But still looking good
