| RC4WD Gelande I
Hi all, Hope this is the right section, will also post in beginers, not sure it this vehicle fits in 1.5 or 1.9. Been Rc drifting for a bit, and now fancy something a tad different, thus purchased a scaler/crawler. I've purchased a RC4WD Gelande I item is basically a roller with cracking landy shell and full roll cage etc. Now I have the following issues that I would love to rectify: 1, Truck is running the standard billet dual springs 80mm shocks. Is it possible to purchase RC4WD or other heavy duty springs as different sites state they are no longer available. Shocks are very spongy with the big heavy cab on thus wanting to up grade. Gelande currently fitted with Green botton & light blue top springs, while rear has dark blue bottom and light blue top springs, unsure if these are old replacements or different springs of something else. 2, Do these shocks run oil ? if so what weight. 3, On the Gelande I RTR and Gelande II there is a battery tray, electric board, waterproof fuel cell/RX box, is it possible to purchase these items and will they fit ? 4, What is the difference between the Gelande 1 & II. 5, The Gelande is very slow, I was hoping for a tiny wheel spin at least, now currently running a 55T Hpi crawler motor, would a 35T motor make a huge difference or what recommendations would you have. 6, Car is running Tamiya Rock Cruiser M/T tyres, these don't seem to grip that well. What tyre recommendations would you have, plus noticed tyres are spinning on the rim, what is the crack with bead locks or should tyres be glued onto rims. As always assistance appreciated. Stu |

I only can offer opinion on these questions... Quote:
@ 6sharky9 I run the stock/cheapo Axial 55T motor with a 3s LiPo not a lot faster (top end) with my low gearing choice. But wheel speed and low end torque response is much improved. Wheel speed and top end will be dictated/controlled by final gear choice/selection. (pinion/spur) Quote:
CA works fine... a little is better then a lot. ('least IMO) Bead Locks are better... simply because the tires can be changed to another tire/tread design with basic hand tools. getting a glued tire off a wheel, in one piece... is another challenge to the hobbyist. ^ can be done... but that's another discussion. | ||

I had the Original Gelande a couple years ago, the best and almost only option for more wheel speed is to swap out the t-case. The stock t-case is 2.18:1 ratio, geared like a tank (real low) and will roll over anything. I did 35t motors and a brushless system with a little noticable increase. I then switched to the optional t-case (.75:1) and it was a dramatic increase, it matches up nicely with the disruptor transmission which is geared fairly low also. I know it's 60.00 but a good motor is 35-45 and a brushless system even more. Trust me on this, I've been there. You could even still use your 55t motor and notice a nice increase in wheel speed. Hpoe this helps a little bit my man. Sorry I forgot the links. The first link is the stock Gelande t-case and the second link is the optional one. http://store.rc4wd.com/T1-Disruptor-...ing_p_859.html http://store.rc4wd.com/T1-Disruptor-...ng_p_1330.html Last edited by gdb85; 01-10-2014 at 05:46 PM. |

Cheers for help on the gearing. The motor came with gelande, , so wanted to change as just do not know age or condition, I might look for a 35t motor then. But ive only just purchased a new crawler esc....thus not keen to go brushless. Does going brushless or/and changing to lipo from nimh make a difference, no nothing of these systems. Now possibly thinking about new t case and a good motor.....but would the t case and new motor make a big difference. . Stu |

A lower turn motor and lipo will definately help, maybe not as much as you would like but it will be noticable. The t-case swap is like night and day, if it's in the budget go for it. you will not be disappointed. |

Chucked a new nimh 4300 battery on truck and a tad better, but may order the transfer case............is it a simple swap out? what difference would a good 35T motor make ?? been for a quick spin today, and those tyres/wheels really do struggle even tho I have glued tyres to rims.......so ordered new combo....... Landy goes a lot better with body taken off, it weighs a ton........ Last edited by piggy; 01-14-2014 at 10:06 AM. |

A 35t and a lipo will again make a little difference but the problem is the gear ratio in Disruptor tranny and the stock T-case combined is sooo low. The t-case is easy swap, same design/shape and same bolt holes. Shame you already ordered new wheels and tires I have these in the for sale section... |

Yes waiting for bits to turn up but reading a lipo's and a lot of people do run them on the crawlers.......... my 300mah battery works ok, but my 4300mah battery just seems to be flat......... might be time to purchase lipo equipment............. I would be interested in wheels/tyres but im from the uk..... Stu |
