I use a throat-less shear from Harbor Freight for everything I can reach with it, then clean it up with files

Got the front truss cut the rest of the way out and tacked together. Then built a front shock tower from zip ties as I just couldn't wait to see it as a roller. And of course had to get some flex shots. I'm still figuring out how I want to mount the body though, I'm thinking I want to hinge it like I did on Farm Truck, for those that have seen it. But I would cut the rear bumper off the body, and have it hinge on both sides, at the top rear of the bed rails, with a velcro tab under the hood. -Derek |

I drew out a plan for the servo mount, and got it mocked up in poster board. Now I'm waiting on the latest shipment of parts, which includes a servo horn for the Solar D772 to make sure this placement will indeed work. Also made an aluminum upper link that makes its way around the servo. Right now it touches the servo mount, but once I make the link mounts on the chassis, it won't, as the link mount will push it 1/4"-1/2" higher than where it currently sits. -Derek |

Few parts came in, then went and made use of a friend's scale to see how Slimer weighed up. Missing receiver, battery, aluminum beef tubes, and a bit of aluminum tubing and plate, it came in JUST under 5lbs. One of the parts was a fuel cell electronics box for a Yeti. Few holes drilled, tabs trimmed, and its installed. Also threw the radiator that was in the extra part for my Yeti on it, with zipties for now, to see how I like it. Other parts include axial universals, over drive gears for the front axle, and a barely used Holmes Hobbies BR-XL and expert 35-turn motor Also going to get an extra diff cover, and do a little sculpting on it, then cast 2 -Derek |

Steering setup is done, other than final brazing on the bracket holding the servo. Re-trimmed the mockup to be lower by 3mm, then bent up the bracket, and have it tacked together. Them mounted the servo up, and bent and cut my links. The servo to knuckle link is a bit funky, but it clears everything and works. Also hooked the servo, esc, and battery up to test the steering. Thanks guys, I'm working on getting the front shock towers/mounts in right now, should have those brazed in before the night is done.

First brazing in about a week. Got the front shock towers all in, and just the rear support bars. Then threw it back together to show it off at the snow crawl tomorrow. Clearance it tight at full compression, but there is clearance. Time for bed, haha -Derek |

Scratch that last thing, haha, I couldn't resist the urge to sculpt on a diff cover tonight. Shaved all the fins and axial emblem off the cover, the started throwing that tiny bit of plastilina clay on and around it. I'll make a mold at some point and cast it in green, then do a little detail painting. -Derek |

Ready to pour the first half of the mold I built the box earlier today, and then wrapped the plywood pieces with packaging tape, it acts as a "release agent" against the silicone Sitting like that in the box, this thing is almost kinda creepy, haha -Derek |

First half of the mold is poured. May take a couple days though, since the stuff is past the shelf life (hence my use of it, no $$) Then shortened and filed the flats on the long axle shafts. Got the diffs installed. Then used velcro battery straps to hold the electronics, and drive it for the first time! Pics are posed, it didn't drive up the step, haha. Then I decided to use a couple battery velcro straps to hold the electronics in, and give it a test drive. Here's a couple vids Post by Derek Venable. Got 3 more bars brazed in, the 2 rear uprights that the rear upper link mounts will partially go on, and one of the bars with a slight bend to surround the tranny, which will also help support the front upper link mounts. Also, as I suspected, the first half of the diff cover mold hadn't fully set yet, but it should be tomorrow. -Derek |
