Default Reflektr's Scx10 Hilux... With real Yota axles...

So I know this place is already crawling with Hilux bodied rigs...Scx10 or not... But one thing I have noticed is that most scx10-based rigs have scx10 axles. While there's nothing wrong with that - I'm more of a Yota axle fan...

Is it the metal construction? Limited steering? Realistic appearance? Lack of bulkiness? The attention required even before the first run!?!? I dunno... I just like them better than scx10 axles for some crazy reason, and there are at least 4 people in this section who would agree... You know who you are you awesome 4, so feel free to take a bow...

Anyways... I found this new scx10 chassis already assembled in the dumpster outside my welding shop... WOW!!!

This is sort of the direction I intend on taking it... Full interior is in the works as well. I just love the way that OG Mounty body looks so scale on there...

The wheels and tires are just donors for the moment. I plan on some Gmade solid steelies wrapped in either rok-loks or iroks... Haven't made up my mind yet completely...

Thank you sir! Yeah, I'm really digging it so far. I'll have to check that one out 1bjb, I think I may have missed it... I love looking at Yota axled builds!

Really struggling with trying to find a good retro paint scheme for this thing. I googled sweet 'Yota Hilux graphics and picked a few runner-ups... Thought I'd post a couple real quick to get a few second opinions...

I'm thinking something along these lines...

IMO the top one. It's something different and a little more unique than what you see on most trucks here.

Now I want yota axles for mine.

Yes! I've really taken a liking to that one as well and it shouldn't be too hard to paint and make look right...

And as far as the 'Yota axles...

Do it. lol. Break away from the norm! I pretty much did it because nobody around here knows anything different than Axial... If it doesn't have a poison spider decal they're lost lol.

I couldn't believe it either Andy! It even had the aftermarket aluminum shock hoops! How lucky could a guy get!?!?

I may joke... But it's a swell chassis kit for a decent price. Granted I just purchased the frame set and provided the rest. I have built my own c-channel frames in the past and while it's not difficult and only costs $5 - It takes time to get it right. So I cheated like woah this time lol. I love that meme by the way!!!

These came in the mail just the other day:

I love the way the tires look on those wheels, and while they seem pretty sticky, I think they might be just a hair too big... I mean it does look pretty tough, but it's almost like one of those '80s "hot-mess-mini-monsters" that you used to see in Mini-Truckin' back in the day...

I loved those trucks.

Hmmmmm...........

It's alive! I took a lamesauce-living room video of it trying to swipe a Cold Snap off of my fireplace. Must've been too much for the little guy...

I hope this works, as this is my first time posting a vid from photobucket. Please excuse the horrible driving...

I too have a yota axled, yota bodied scx chassis. Wouldnt have it any other way. (Little Yota Truggy in my sig)

If Iroks are the tire you want, you need the 1.7s. The fit just right with the body

Thank you! Yota axles are pretty cool... Pretty hard to beat the good old scale Yotas. I mean I love the way everything works, but I think the 1.9 Iroks just look a tad too big for what I'm going for. I'm after the "tough-looking clean old-school OEM-ugly-truck that'll chew up your pretty-boy rig" look... But I do love the way the bigger tires performed... Quite the dilemma considering I'm wanting to keep this somewhat scale...

yea the 1.9 Iroks (4.65") are huge for the Hilux body. The 1.7 Iroks (4.18") are much more scale appropriate. the 1.55 Iroks (4.33") work with a lifted body/suspension

Depending on what I do with the body, I may throw the wagon wheels and flat-irons back on the ol' girl for the time being, or switch the flatties over to the steelies...

Speaking of the body, would anyone happen to know where a guy could find the grill/bumper/headlights/tail lights parts tree? I'm not sure what 15-year-old-me did with them when he disassembled the body 16 years ago...

Little science experiment...

Any of you clever folks think this may work?

I figured while I was waiting on my rusty little science project to develop I'd do something productive with metal...

Frame sliders? Perhaps I may...

Not too bad...

Hey look! The little buggers multiplied...

Oh and I have some good news! With a little poking around I was able to find the 3 parts trees I was missing for the body. It's amazing what you can find when you actually go looking or it lol.

So I did a foolish thing and ran my toy truck with plastic tranny-gears and no slipper clutch....... : ( So...! Knowing how I drive, I replaced all the plastic units with Robinson's...

I also raised the body a little to compensate for the larger tires.

I realize they look slightly too large to be "scale", but after switching out the foams I wound up liking them better than the flat-irons. I also dig the gmade steelies better than my old first-gen rc4wd wagon wheels.... They were pin-mount and I couldn't tighten them all the way without them binding up...

A few "poser" shots out on the wood pile behind my house:

Not too bad, but I may have to carefully trim a little to clear those big ol' hawgs

Speaking of hawgs...

Here's supper! lol.

No major updates, but I did receive these in the mail today...

Nothing major I know, but I'm pretty excited about it! At least now I can move on with the body work : )
