| 2017 RCEC TTC Build Off Entry - Geoff Grothes '66 Bronco
If you guys haven't checked it out yet, you need to see what Trevor is organizing on the RCEC FB page. What started off as a whim has turned into quite a cool competition. https://www.facebook.com/RCECTTC/ 40+ builders from across the US are building replicas of past TTC competing rigs from the Four Wheeler top truck challenge. The rig has to have competed and once a rig is selected, you have to find a different one as it's first come first serve. If things work out, there will be a TTC event next summer for all the competitors that can make it to compete. You know I couldn't miss out on this one. I love Broncos so I had to pic one and I just liked the compact size and big tires of Geoff's 66. He competed in 2006 at TTC XIV against Sam Collins who you may know on the forums as sam63. Here is Geoffs Rig. The competition is to be as true to the rig as it was at the competition. I want it to be scale but I also want it to perform. I had to go with a badass scale drive train so I'm using GCM trans/transfer (based on the ssd trans). I plan to use wraith axles at full width if I can. If not, I'll narrow them down. I've ordered Proline Bogger 1.9's as I think they will fit the scale of the proline 66 bronco body i'm using. Since I don't have them yet, I mocked up with some 2.2 ripsaws that are about the same diameter. The body needs more trimming and I have a lot of work to do. But the deadline isn't until April Current parts list plan: Electronics - Airtronics MT4 SSD Ox winch with Castle esc for control Castle 2850kv Slate motor with mamba X ESC Savox 1230 servo with castle BEC Have to find a way to package 2200mah 3S packs in it somewhere Chassis - Custom tube 3/16" DOM tubing on a rail front frame. All brazed together. This will be the first chassis I do wihout an axial skid. Going to make it look like the real thing. Proline 66 bronco for the deadbolt. All cut up to follow the scale of the 1/1 and have an opening hood. Driveline - GCM LRT2 trans tcase combo - GCM motor cover Dlux mod wraith front axle w/ beef tubes and Axial Uni's SSD centered plastic D60 rear axle SSD scale driveshafts Axial 43/13 axle gears and incision spools Wheels/Tires - 1.9 PL Boggers with a custom setup of CI foams 1.9 Locked up RC wheels with TR rings |

Awesome! I just spent like $200 on old Top Truck DVD's - that rig was definitely one of my favs. Can't wait to see what you do with this one. |

Thanks man! I don't suppose you're willing to sell your copy of the 2006 ttc with this rig in it? I just need to get some more up close looks at the rig so I can nail down more details. If not, any chance I can rent it from you lol. For the life of me I can't find a copy anywhere from eBay, Craigslist, or FB. All the YouTube videos are very minimal in content and footage of this bronco. Quote:
Planning on either some dcw delrin ones I have or some locked up RC black anodized. Either way with some locked up RC 1.9 trail ready beadlock rings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by dna4engr; 08-16-2017 at 10:31 PM. | ||

And for foams I'm still brainstorming. But probably will be CI dueces wild closed cell 4.75" with some sort of open cell outer. Either from 1.9 or cut down from 2.2 foams.

The double deuce 5.25 foams have a nice fit on the 1.9 BTR wheels. I have not opened the boggers yet to see how the foams fit in them. Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk |

Dana, your stuff rocks! Your builds are the stuff of legends! I am still wanting to pick your brain on an old school power wagon build idea! You are an amazing chassis builder! I might actually have the 06 TTC DVD somewhere in my stuff!

It's been a little while since updating this. I figured out the foams and picked up locked up tr beadlock rings. I tried 5.25 Dd foams and they were way too soft. I used 4.75 duces wild with the 5.25 outer. Just about perfect! The wheels are some black delrin dcw wheels. 185 hubs and the LU TR rings. Perfect! Also figuring out the wheelbase so I can start fab. Ended up at about 12.5". The track width is a touch wider than the real truck but it'll work especially to keep the axles intact without modification. Also got a slew of parts from RPP so I have more work to do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Got a little bit of time to work on this. Our season finals and Crawlapalooza took a lot of my free time. 3D printed small block ford motor cover and headers arrived. Started laying out that with an exo terra radiator. Also getting the tcase height set. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
