Default Axial UMG10 by JUSTINART24

I had a bunch of Axial SCX10 parts laying around so picked up some UMG10 body parts, this truck is more of a buddy loaner truck and sometimes will be used for Class One at WARCRC events. I will be trying to keep this one pretty stock and not much metal work or etc but more of just a "fun driver".

I made some links for my AxialRacing UMG10 build and I am trying out the Vanquish Products aluminum rod ends. Since the rod ends are 4mm thread, I picked up some 4mm thread rod on amazon for pretty cheap. I am using 1/4” stainless steel tubing to cover the threaded rod. There was a little slop between the 1/4” sleeve and 4mm threaded rod so I cut down some 3/16” .014” wall tubing to make it a tight fit. I like to use sleeved threaded rod because its pretty reusable if I want to reduce the length of the link or etc. Any who, trying something new to me was pretty fun.

A little update on my Axial Racing UMG10 loaner truck, I got most of the wiring wrapped up. As you can see in the pics I am running a RC4WD AX2 2SP transmission, locked out in first gear for some low end crawling with a 9t pinion. For the ESC, I am running a Castle Creations Sindwinder 4 and for around 70 bucks it’s a pretty good value with even a built in fan. I am running a Team Brood Racing 35t brushed motor. I usually run higher end Brood brushes motors but this budget friendly 30 motor crawls really well too. For the battery, I am running a 1300mah 3S lipo LiPO, I dont run anything bigger to keep the weight low and forward. As for the steering servo I am running a Hitec HS-7954SH. I pretty much only run Hitec because I haven’t had really any trouble with the ones I have used over the years and to only stock the Hitec servo arms.

I am working on my loaner Axial Racing UMG10 truck and started some painting tonight. I was not looking forward to cutting out the headlight holes but used my leather punch to start the cut out. It ended up working out pretty good.

I picked up a RC4WD (CCHand) Unimog grill for my Axial Racing UMG10. It came with a nice template that I put on the inside and used a blade to scribe the trim line on the outside of the body. To cut the holes I used Dremel with an abrasive bit to carve out the hole. Next step is to paint the grill and new body.

I ended up just spraying the white CCHand grill with some primer to make not so bright.

I had to get another body shell and again just painted it with Tamiya PS-5 black paint.

The grill mounted pretty easily, just with four phillips screws on the front. I also just super glued in the headlight covers and blinker covers.

Here are some pictures of my Axial UMG10 from yesterdays 2020 WARCRC Scale Comp #3. The truck did really well, I have the RC4WD AX2 two speed transmission locked in first and the low end control of this truck with smaller tires is really nice and was fun to slowly crawl on the rocks. I do really like the wheelbase too, it really helped out with turning, even not running any OD or UD gears in the axles.
