Equipe 4x4 is a little company we have here.
They offer kits to upgrade real Land Rover Defenders and others vehicles.
I've always loved their rigs, so when I finally put my hands on a couple of Defender shells was easy to decide I'd like to build a replica of one of those.

That's the Raptor. I hope the final product will resemble it.

These are the plans:

-TLT axles and Landmax wheels.
I could use different wheels tires (tonkas or some cut to 1.9 dirt works) in the future, but for now Landmax will be OK.
I'm figuring a way to build my own radiocontrolled diff lockers.
Yes you read well. Hopefully there will be a servo that will lock both diffs.

-Tranny.
It will be similar to the pitbull driveline. This means 3 speed big rig with custom geared down T-case. Even the final ratios will be similar since I'm very happy with the pitbull's ones.

-Frame.
I'm thinking to use something a bit different, from our usual alloy profile rails.
I was in the lab yesterday and I noticed the upper plastic Juggy rails. They aren't stiff enough to work without help, but I think I'll couple them with some alloy plates to reinforce them. They look very good.

-Suspension.
It will be just as the real defender is, so:
2 link with panhard bar with coilover spring at front and 3 links at rear with separated springs and dampers.

That's all for now. I don't know yet if I'll keep the interior or not. and there are a lot of thing I'll front when they'll present. Things like winch, lights, bumpers, rollcage :lolbeat:

I did some more thinking ;)
Everything is temporary. I'm just playing with parts to uunderstand where Everything will go.
There's enough room to let me mount the tranny without mods. Well I can, but the body should rest too high, or the suspension will have a little compression. Again there's no room to mount the tranny laydown. So I have to mod the tranny. :blink:
Not a major mod, I just wants to build new motor plate to make the tranny more compact.

I still have to find a way to build a 2 link setup that deserve this name ;)

The 3 speed tranny is a very good unit, but it's very high and long.
There's not a lot to do for the lenght and it's not a problem even, but the height really disturb me.
So I decided to reposition the motor. This will low the CG and will make the unit more compact.

After some thinking/cutting/drilling/milling/filing...

That's the result:

I rebuilt the front plate to move the motor down.

What do you think?
I'm not sure I chose the right side. I was thinking to mount the tranny laydown, so I mounted the motor on that side to keep it on the right side (against torque roll issue), but after the assmbling I think I'll keep the tranny in the stock orientation since the motor is lower in that way.
Maybe I could build another. Time will tell.

I'm now working on the frame.

Thats really cool, a lot of d90's on the board now! I hate the two link setup on my 1:1 so I ditched it, but it would look cool on a scale rig like that. For more flex you could do a safari gard 3 three link, might be easier too.

WOW, incredible attention to detail. that is going to be a incredibly scale rig, those first few shots look almost real, had to look twice.

Very cool Rik- that's an awesome solution for a lower motor position on the 3-speed. this is going to be a killer build!

Where do you get those Tonka Tires from. They look just like Goodyears MTR...? Can't wait to see more progress on this. Keep up the work.

Also you may look into going brushless on this thing. The motor will be both lighter and alot shorter. Looks like that extra length of the motor could be problematic when you get to the body mounting stages.

Well the tonkas came from a toy I bought time ago.
This:

I bought it to give Pitbull o body.

They looks good and are soft even.
They have only a little problem, they completely miss the internal sidewall

There are some BFG inside them in the pics.
Plans are to rebuild the internal side.

Wheels are alloy 1.9 ones. They came from Germany. Unfortunately they don't produce them anymore.

Update
Working on the frame.

One rail completed. The upper one still need attention.

Trimming the Juggy rails.

Frame completed. Holes will be added after some thinking.

Mock up. I'd like to keep the battery in the front section. You know why ;)
I don't know if I'll can manage a solution for all the other parts. Things like steering servo, winch and son...

Not bad. I like it ;)
