Default Project BBW: Big Burly Winch

Some of you have seen my PTO winch:

2-speed tranny with PTO!

Now that it's passed proof-of-concept, it's time to build a rig around it.

Click the image to open in full size.

The chassis is some bent-up C-channel with TLT side plates, prototype T-Rex axles and Revo shocks. Losi Claws front, Hammers rear. Nothing special, just a quicky to mount up the trans.

The body is a Pro-Line Silverado with comp-cut rear fenders. The WB on this thing is a tick over 13 inches, and the trans is so big that I needed a crew cab.

The plan is to make this my Ohio Scale Adventure Series rig for 2010. Winching plays a huge part in OSAS runs, and I've got plenty of power on tap with this one.

There's talk of implementing a minimum-scale-points rule for OSAS 2010, so I'll add a drop bed and some lights. I did manage a tie for first this year with a 45-point rig. Shaving some points off will help the weight and performance.

I'm sure it's more than the line can handle. It pulls the rig up vertically without even trying. I'll see if I can find a fish scale and get back to ya.

I bet there's enough parts on that table to build a rig....

If there was, I'd have built it by now The pile is mostly tools, screws, styrene scraps, a couple batteries, the famous jar of Vaseline, an unfinished styrene Bobcat, and a pink foam blow-up doll. You know, the usual.

Buckets installed (no LED's yet) along with tow hooks and a loop to hold the inch hook. I love these King Kong hooks.

Those are prototype RC4WD T-Rex axles I received for testing. The white plastic seems to be tougher than the production black plastic. I left 'em white because it bothers sloppy so much

That was funny.

I'm thinking to myself, why does Stu have a tractor tire?

Because the Marathon was giving 'em away. Thought it might make a good hillbilly planter, but the Mrs. didn't agree.

It's personal now with the tractor tire. Gonna load up the spool with some stronger line, volt up and make another snatch block. I WILL move that fawker.

Hey Stu I have yards of green 100lb nylon I use for rigging chutes.I've always broke the winch before the line. I used it on Nylint winch years ago, remember it? Anyways, looks super scale.

Gonna stop by the local sporting goods tomorrow and see if I can't find something stronger. This 80-pound breaks way too easy. If I can't find anything better than 100 I'll hit you up.

I do remember the Nylint winch

Have you tried GOOD quality masonry line? Not the cheese wiz stuff you get at Lowes or Home Depot.

The stuff I used to use when I laid block for a living...I bet it'd beat 100 lbs. I'll see if I can round some up somewhere and check it out.
