| Andy's Jimmy build - Mattzilla custom chassis
Well, let me see if I can get this going. I'm sure I'll do something wrong and probably upload something stupid. I got this chassis from this amazing chassis building in CA, he goes by Mattzilla. You can see his stuff on the forum if you haven't. But he made this Jimmy chassis for me. My idea is long, wide and overpowered. Parts on the list include: Axial axles with 19mm wideners RC4WD IROK Swampers 2.2 R2 tranny steel shafts Castle 3800 motor Castle Mamba Max esc Hitec servo wheels - either OEM steelies or aluminum beadlocks G-made stainless light buckets (6 of 'em) 3-racing winch Custom links from nickel plated steel Last edited by I.D.10.T; 04-10-2012 at 08:49 PM. It's very easy to get infected by this kind of sickness. That's a really special looking chassis, congratulations. |

OK, I got ahold of some paint and threw in the tranny/motor/esc. I'm only gonna get about an hour or two per week for this right now, but better than just looking at it as I pass through the garage. I'm having a delima on the wheels (steel or aluminum).

Sick looking for sure, those aluminum wheels are cool, but I love the steelies! Either way you can't go wrong.

A little more paint was thrown on. I'm thinking about the aluminum wheels, since I am going with polished aluminum on the axles, stainless light buckets and the plated links. I also managed to get some of the links threaded. The lowers are 5/16" and the uppers are going to be 1/4". I believe those are the sizes. I'm tired and have too many things on my mind. I'm gonna try to get the rest of the links ready and mounted this week. Its not much fun threading those things. BTW: I do like the G-Made lights. I don't like the thought of wiring them. I'll probably just buy a wired kit and be lazy. I'm less likely to burn myself or blow up something. BOOM |

I had some build time during the storms this weekend. I need to learn to keep the camera with me and use it while I'm building. My upper links are some that I had sitting around. They are too long and will be shortened. So I need to get some driveshafts in it and the rest of the electronics. I don't need no stinking wheels. I'll find some way to drive it. No, I've gone with the aluminum wheels with some polished out wide beadlocks. Actually, they didn't polish out that well. Meaning, I didn't spend that much time on them.

It's coming together nicely. Great job and plenty of room to tuck everything away.

Getting close to play time. The wheels and tires are on, but the memory foams are not going to work for me. If it sits on its wheels for 3 seconds, the rim is almost on the ground. I'm going back to the stock foams. It has 19mm wideners on it. The esc, rec., and all will fit into a nice little, black box that will be made from lexan. I'm looking to mount the battery just behind that. The shocks are not going to work either. I set all the stuff in the chassis to see how it would sit and the that's when I saw the tires go flat and the shocks bottom out. I'll find something in my stash that will work. Oh the joys of trail and error.

I have finally made it to the driving state. Although the foams and the springs are to soft. The shocks are also to tall. I do have some shorter, stiffer shocks sitting around. And the front tires rub hard when turning. So that means some body trimming is on the way. The lights were a true pain to install. Only because my stupid big hand kept getting stuck in the cockpit area when I tightened them. At one point, I ran out the garage just before bed to install the last one. You know what I mean, being that close, its gotta be done before some Z's. It got stuck really well. I thought I was going to have to go to bed like that. I'm sure I would have ended up on the couch for that one. But this thing is very close to seeing some action. I can't wait to get it done and some bulbs in the lights too. |

Looks really good, like the color combo. Should of used some Vaseline, no more stuck fingers. |
