Default Aloysius the Ultra4 rig

Aloysius (al-ə-wish-əs) is a given name. It is a Latinisation of the names Louis, Lewis, Luis, Luigi, Ludwig, and so on. It has Germanic origins and means, "fame and war."

I contacted Mcrawlinslow and said I wanted an ultra chassis. My three requirements were this: 1) Has to run a wraith skid. 2) Needs to be compatible with 90-100mm shocks. 3) it HAS to be light weight. And I will tell you what, he delivered! Great chassis at a great price. And very light, weighing in at 1lb 3.6oz w/ powdercoat.

I built a wroncho a while back, but it didn't satisfy my needs, so I decided to build an ultra rig. I am mostly a comp guy, so scalers aren't high on my list. Hence why I am going for lw. I run 3.5lb comp rigs.. Why would I build a 8lb scaler? Also, since I am a comp guy, I could care less about true scale looks and accessories, as I focus more on performance. I could care less if I have a driver in there, if I have a spare tire, and I don't like scale accessories, especially on an ultra rig. All that stuff to me is unnecessary weight. The only accessories I do plan on putting are a fuel cell and a light bar. I want something that I can go drive and just have fun.

Onto the parts list:

I am building all of the body panels for it. I am about 95% done, then I will start painting them. As I finish up, I will post more pictures.

Parts pics..

Badass centered rear axle. I still need to get another Ballistic Fab gear cover for it, but IMO it looks awesome.

Power stokes built with 35wt oil.

Beautiful methods

Trusty old MMP

I am waiting for the dlux modified housing, and I will have the front axle done. Gotta do some soldering and I can start installing electronics as well. I am hoping to have the last couple things ordered up by next week.. I am anxious to drive this thing!!

Thanks for looking, lmk what you think

Love the name. Sounds like the rig should be a preformer. Looking forward to more.

It's late and my brain is shutting down. If I missed it....what is the spur gear setup? I saw the spur gear listed, but what are you running for a slipper (if any) on the tranny? Thanks in advance. Greg

I didn't list it, but thanks for asking. I am running the axial slipper eliminator plate from axial, modified for six screws (for a bit more security). I have ran the slipper eliminator on all my scalers and never had a problem, frankly I run it because I don't like to deal with slippers (and they are unnesiccary weight). I am hoping the spur will holdup thou, if it doesn't I will get the RR 56t and Supershafty top shaft.

You might want to use Oilite bushings on the rear pinion...bearings won't hold up to that kind of power...been there, done that (I have some if you want 'em)

I didn't think much about the bearings not holding up, specially with that tiny motor on 3s.. ;) my first thought was the od gears never goin to last! Then again, the way Christian will be putting around, driving miss Daisy, style.. It may last a long time!
The chassis is Soooo sick! Can't wait to see this progress into a rtr or finally see these new ottsix, killer, tires take to the rocks!

I am worried about that rear axle housing bearing.. I really don't want to mess up that case, because it wasn't cheap. I think I am just going to run a normal wraith axle in the rear. I have everything needed, so I could just put that on. I have an unmodified case to get get through, then I can send another case over to Mr. Dlux and have him do the bearing mod.

In fact, I just got my front case with the bearing mod from Erik, and it looks awesome. Very well machined and looks much better than that little stock bearing. Another A+ for Dluxfab

Well few things changed..

1) Rear axle was switched over to a normal wraith axle. Stock case for now, I will order a dlux modified housing as well as a rear truss here soon. While building, I realized I had OD gears in the rear too. So standard ratio will need to be ordered.
2) Started mocking things up and realized trailing arms won't work. The shock mounts in the chassis are too far back for the trailing arms to work properly. So back to axle mounted shocks, Owell.
3) Was changing out the rodends on my links and realized that one of the threads on my VP front lowers was messed up.. So new front lowers will need to be ordered as well.

Made good progress thou. Front axle is fully assembled minus a servo horn. All panels (minus hood) are mocked up and made. I will start painting this week. Things are starting to come together nicely. I can't wait

Few axle shots.. Not that you haven't seen wraith axles before

Few pics of the panels before I paint them..

Decided some boat sides would look good, as well as keep some dirt out.

Electronics fit nice and snug. Still need to add the bec as well.
