Took advantage of the awesome weather we had Sunday and went out for a little crawling. Made a few minor tweaks to Project Low Bucks. Went to 40 wt oil all around, stiffened up the rear springs just a bit, and pinched the body to prevent it from rubbing the rear tires. I still need to order a cell to add to his pack to gain a little wheel speed. Things went pretty well until the stock plastic servo horn stripped out (cheap ass Dad) and he lost steering. It was cool as I broke a yoke 10 minutes earlier on my rig! Check out the body English! |

Project Low Bucks continues! Traded a RC18 that hadn't been used for a while for some Erickson Delrin Bead locks and a set of Losi Claws. Tore them down and added about 6 oz's to them. Also replaced the servo horn so he's ready to go for this weekends comp. |

Looks like a "Rookie of the Year" contender. Great to see a Dezfan Team starting. With a top 5 finish the first time out, he might be your biggest threat! 80. |

Project Low Bucks continues! My son beat on this rig for several months and it's starting to show some wear. He broke a couple rear knuckles, had several of the Axial rod ends fail (as have I), needs more wheel speed, and his tires are in serious need of being replaced. So, I have his rig sitting here all tore apart and I'm starting to make plans for what I want to do to this rig. First thing I did was to replace the rear knuckles and and stub axles w/ a rear strait axle lock out. Made a call to Jarrod at JP CUSTOM RC's and he sent out a HR straight axle kit. Jarrod is a super guy and has helped me on my sons build on several occasions! BIG THANKS TO HIM AND JP CUSTOM RC'S! Next I started looking for a solution to the rod end issue and it was sitting right in front of me. I've had a GC-1 chassis sitting on the bench forever, now is a perfect time to but it back into commission! Talk about an upgrade! The GC-1 and the links were left over from one of my old builds from last year so technically since I had already spent the money, I'm not going to count the cost of it toward this build! Now for the wheels speed issue? I don't have any extra 35t motors sitting around and I didn't want to buy another even if I could find one, but I did have an extra 3 cell lipo sitting around, That should wake this old 55t Integy motor up! Using the 3S lipo brought on another issue though. The XL5 ESC I was using in this rig won't handle it, so again I look around the work bench and there sits my T4 project that isn't going to be run until this winter. It has a Mamba Max in it........Hmmmmmmm. So the Max will go into this build as well. Also sitting on the bench from my RC8 electric conversion I recently sold was a Hitec 5595TG! So it will go in as well! These upgrades will greatly increase both the ability and durability of the rig and since the parts were mostly pulled from other rigs, it's not costing me any more money! Now on to the tires. He's run my leftovers this year. He started w/ IMEX Rubicons, went to Losi Claws, and then Pro Line Badlands. Now w/ my Panther sponsership, he will step up to top of the line Cougars! They will be mounted on my Mayhem wheels left over from my Black Jack build. Since I sold it, they have just been sitting on the workbench. Feels good to be putting all of this equipment to to work on the rocks! I have some more work to do on this build this evening and I'll post up pics later this evening! Last edited by dezfan; 09-10-2008 at 03:38 PM. |

Sounds cool. I too will be building a rig for my two boys to share (yeah right) once I get an MOA rig up and going.

Thanks guys, he loves to crawl and he is getting better at it. If I could not stress about course penalties the way he does, I would be way ahead of the game. I forgot that I had some new Rhino Lipo's coming in to test. They arrived this afternoon so I think I'll strap one in this rig. If anyone can put it to the test, my son can!

My son has been involved more in nitro over the last couple years until this summer. He came down for my portion of his "Summer Vacation" and ended up leaving with my AX. The way I look at it, if he's (at 14) into R.C's he's not getting into anything else. Great job Dez . |

how does your son have the patience for you to fix stuff? my son can't wait for the next day. he is up to an edge chassis, 7t puller, hitech servo, puniser shafts, and soon to be a lipo, decent speed controller and a spektrum.

Get the kids involved in something productive and they tend to stay out of trouble. When I was young my Dad did the same thing w/ me except it was planes. I sucked at landing and didn't enjoy having to repeatedly rebuild them so I moved to the car side of the sport. I'm lucky I guess, he is pretty patient. Plus w/ school and homework he stays busy.
