You can clearly see the stub axle is not lined up with the protractor

I recieved my Axial CVDs and RCP max-clearance knuckles today.

The only thing I dont like about them is the shaft diameter behind the ball is smaller than the MIP by the looks of it. The ring to hold the pin in there is a nice touch though

Steering is incredible. These two upgrades eliminated the tire wiggle I had in the RC4WD knuckle/stock axle setup also

JPH Racing has the Axial parts in stock, $24.99. Mip's also, $39.99. RCP products as well.

I found that the pin and barrell was a bit loose...maybe I'm just used to my race vehicles CVD's, but mine aren't as tight as I would have fully preferred.

My Axial CVD's are tight. I'm also using RCP high clearance knuckles, and the steering is incredible, and the quality is second too none.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who had this problem with the MIP CVD's. It seemed to me that the first shanked portion after the cross pin needed to be machined down a little more. After installing the MIP's and tightening down the wheels, there was an incredible amount of binding going on. First I thought about leaving the wheel nuts a little loose, but I really didn't want to. I ended up grinding down the rear portion of the wheel hex (the pin side). Then I just ordered and installed the Axial CVD's and changed the hexes and I am very glad to not have any binding. I'm sure the MIP CVD's are great but I think Axial won this contest......at least for me.

I have the same problem.

Whoodie said MIP informed him they are reworking the stubs to fix this. Hopefully we'll be able to get replacements at a reasonable price.

If you are having issues from the manufacturing process w/ stock parts then the the replacements should be free... Now if you are having issues utilizing after market products w/ MIP that is a different story...

I have had my Axial CVD's for a while now and I have only had one failure of a pin , to date I ordered a rebuild kit and readjusted my endpoints a little and have not had any trouble.

Although this is an old thread I want to add another point. All you people who assume that the high clearance knuckles and CVD's are gonna give you crazy amounts of steering you are right - to a point. You cannot have them at full throw as they will indeed break. You need to limit it still as they can only take too much. I have never had a problem with a Cobalt puller and mine. 5 comps and many other outings later still no breakage. Just limit them a little.
