| Project Berg Eater
So Before I buy Bergs I want to see if I can make a working freak out of an axial. At the moment it is not pretty, but this is my progress thus far. One of the things holding my rig back besides driver is belly clearance... Well with this setup that shouldnt be an issue anymore. I have a motor mounted with a 13:1 worm reduction directly to the front axle and there will be a carrier bearing setup to the rear axle. I hope it works. I still have to make a little more support to the motor bracket before I continue with the rest. Let me know what you think. First the parts Aquired. I bought this and hacked it up from Surplus Gizmos... The worm gear was a perfect fit for a 3.18mm shaft I just had to put a set screw in. The 5mm pinion and 5mm shaft were ideas thanks to Mitch the RC Douche(Dumptruck) Taking apart the comper: Pinion installed And the baracketry pretty much built. I have to tweak the angle a little and add 1 more support bracket so the whole thing doesnt move at all To Be Continued... |

1 Motor mount? umm that motor will move. FYI: With a worm gear you'll never be able to have free wheel option. |

Interesting. My only thought is the end of the worm gear and the end of the pinion/drive shaft might have to be captured.....Maybe in some sort of housing. The worm gear will generate an amazing amout of side force against the pinion gear if the wheels get stuck.

This may have crossed your mind. Maybe you didn't want to go this route...but I suppose you could do this for both the front and the rear axle and ditch the driveshafts altogether...eh?

Funny you should try this now. I was just thinking about something similar this morning while getting ready for work. Looks like a good start. Would the carrier bearing allow a higher driveline? If not, I'd go for the motor on each end.

Progress.... So I made a support bracket on the other side of the motor so the motor doesnt move at all. And then to keep the pinion from walking sideways I put in that ghetto U-Bot to hold the pinion in beter. I hooked it up to electronics and also bound it up and tried to turn the motor while the pinion shaft was bound.... It just binds, doesnt flex and skip teeth now. I wanted to make sure I could keep the pinion in place before I went further and thus far it seems like I did the trick. But we will see. I also got the servo in and the front bracket's for the piano wire. It looks like crap thus far because generally most of what I build doesnt work well. And if this works well, then I will put time into making nicer parts and making her pretty |

| yeah , im curious to see that setup, and how its all connected. i dont think i would ever be able to dedicate myself to do that much work, but knowing how would be nice. what axles did you use? do the outrunners hit the rocks much? never that setup before. |
