Default Comp Proven Chassis

hey guys i've been building my ax10 for the last couple months and ive come to the conclusion one of the last things i need for a comp rig is a new chassis.

I want a chassis with a lower CG, and i would also like to still run a spring suspension setup rather than a droop if that helps.

I need some option on what chassis people are running, how they like them, and how they compare to each other.

-I have been looking at the SWX i know bender is has a great reputation, I had a sw2 based tlt, is the SWX available yet?
-I have also heard good things about the top banana any opinions?
-CKRC Rockstar?
-CDW?

thanks in advance
Steven

I would stay away from the rockstar IMO. The rs offers limited mounting positions that a true comp crawler requires. I would suggest the MFM Black Widow. It offers many mount points, Nice stance with sprung suspension, amazing comp performance, and outstanding customer support. The MFM chassis also comes with lower links and @ an amazing price.

The Rockstar just took 3rd at the Nationals. It's definitely comp worthy.

A fellow crawler ran a rockstar and was very disappointed. He is currently running a GC 2 and is loving it. I am not bashing your product, only stating the facts.

A new chassis that I have been testing and works really well is the Cobalt 5. I will be posting my build soon! Vendor thread here, ***New*** Cobalt Crawler 5 Chassis

I have ran the SWX, Slingshot, Banana, and BlackJack, and all are great performing chassis, depends on what your style and terrain is like, and how much you like to tinker!

Don't forget about the Reign Widemouth and the GC2!! Very proven chassis also!!

I have not run the CDW or the Rockstar so I really do not have to much input, the CDW looks really promising though.

Another good possiability: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134463

Alot of your choice is going to be determined by what type of suspension you like/want. For example if you want a chassis that has full articulation then there are many choices, but if you like a limited articulation you prolly have equal amount of choices. If want droop then you will need to choose your shocks carefully by length and performance, and if you like sprung(as you stated you do) then you will need look for a chassis that can handle the length of shock you plan to use and go from there. Just keep in mind if you can't find the right shock length for your chassis then you could go longer shock than needed and limit it with fuel tubing inside.

I hope this helps some

I would recommend the Gatekeeper GC2 for a shaft truck, it nearly eliminates torque twist and allows for a Very predictable and stable truck. The longer links allow the axle to flow over terrain nice and smoothly.

If I was going to build another shaft-drive truck, it would be a Top Banana. But I just got my Berg axles and have a Zero 4.0 on the way.

You have two new chassis coming soon to wait for. The ShaftD and the Zero10. Both seem like winners. Have you seen Dr.Thunders video of his run at the Green River Comp. That is with the ShaftD, and it appeared to be very smooth!

I'm running the Black Widow right now. It's nice and gets the job done.

Sbarnesvta, a word of caution:
DO NOT buy directly from Double J, he is a known scammer.

If you are intent on running a Da Bull, search through the classifieds to find one.

As a side note, the Deimos from AKRCC Militia looks promising.

I'm really diggin the TK Twister so far. I am going with a half droop setup and all initial testing has proven this rig to be a very competitive chassis. And with the included links and link mount plates you will not have to make or mix your links. You can see my build thread going on live Here!

You only need 1 mounting position, one that works. I like low slung chassis with a compression set up.

The GC2 is a totally different animal that the GC1. Is an improved chassis, has different link geometry and more adustablity in the link and shock placements. As stated above, is very stable and very predictable. If I was building another ring (and I am ) I would go with a CG2, one of Badd's or a Zero chassis. There are other good choises out there, these are just want I am going to stick with because I know all of these guys at some level and they are all great guys and very willing to help.

Good luck
