Question Homebrew chassis help

Hi there, I was in the process of building a chassis and before i start punching holes in this baby just wanted some idea's, thaught's or coment's(good or bad!). Should be able to use stock axial shocks in partial or full droop or 4'' shocks sprung or partial droop. Gonna have to use 95mm upper links and stock lowers for a 12 1/2'' wheel base. Chassis measures 2 7/16'' x 7 7/16'' and should give me about 2 1/2'' - 3'' ground clearance. Should only end up being 2 1/2'' wide...

Looks prettygood so far. Round off the lower edge of the chassis to prevent hangups. I would also plan on making a strut for your shock mounts. Run between your shocks. I use 1/4 dia aluminum and screw thru your shock directly into it. Therfore you will eliminate the flex that you encounter.

Thanks, I wouldn't have thaught of rounding the bottom edges...makes sense! As for the struts i plan on re-using the old stuts off the ax chassis. I'll probably end up using two on the shocks and two in the middle of the chassis....should be solid!!

I have my current chassis at 2 3/4 wide inside the plates and it is very tight. The axial tranny actually pokes through on the drive shaft side to get the motor to fit. Be sure to mock up with tranny before wasting some time on the skid plate.

Cool, Thanks for the info!! I was actually gonna wait until I tore down the ax before I made the skid since it only took about 2 hours to make the chassis with a hacksaw and files...What kind of chassis are you runnin? Don't suppose you have any pics just to give me an idea?

Wow!! that is a very nice setup! Thank you very much for the help I think I'm still going to try to squeeze it all into a 2 1/2'' wide chassis....we'll see how it goes! might have to cut out the side a little more... I was just outside and we have some freezing rain so I'm gonna have to go and do some ice crawlin!!! I've been waiting to test the new studded tires Thanx again for your help. I sure appreciate it

Well, here it is!! All done exept for the skid plate...waiting to get my hands on some delrin. Ended up with 3'' ground clearance and 3/4'' shorter than stock. It's still 2 3/4'' wide with the original skid but I think that I can squeeze it down to 2 1/2'' wide. It will be like tryin to squeeze a watermelon through a garden hose but I'll make it happen!! Still have the ax shocks in partial droop on there and it gave me about 55 - 60 degrees of articulation so me thinks I'll be puttin the big bores on there to tone that down a little! Anywho here's some pic's

Holy moly.... I found my angle finder today and slapped it on the rig and it's actually getting 82* of articulation Definately need to reduce that some!! That's a far cry from the 55 - 60* I thaught I was getting!

Yeah' that's the only good thing these tires are good for IMO!! Next time i go out ice crawlin (waiting for the river to pack up) I'll try to remember the camera! FYI it took 212 #6x3/8'' sheet metal screws...and they work awsome!! I think I'll re-name them "The Ice Killa's"
