Default need advice, setup on budget 200$

did invest in an used ax10.
RtR, almost zero usage, 0 scratches.
Alu uppdated, everything but transcase and axels.
but still in stock setup. 3link and chassie

have read alot about diffrent uppdates, and the wall of text crits my eyes.
so many choices.

Well for the help part.

if you had 200$ to make your ax10 a good/comp crawler
What woud you fix first for 200 bucks?

(not counting weels/ esc and motor) going Fxr-35T
edit , ups forgot tires, dry cracks, hard as rock =)

Thanks.

Before I got anything, I'd swap those tires.

Tires, good servo, and a bec. That'll probably soak up that budget!

I'm not sure that $200.00 will quite do it.

I am not sure that $200 will build you a winning comp crawler, but you can do alot with $200 if you do it yourself. I have built chassis, 4 link plates, comp rings, and links for my crawlers. I would look into building your own chassis. I made mine with a 1/8th sheet of aluminum ($10 and made 2 chassis, rock rings, and there is still more left), a $20 jig saw, metal files ($ and a little imagination. Well worth the time and effort.

I dont know that I will be winning any comps, but I made my parts and am having a good time doing it.

I think that Practice is one of the most important things you can do and it is free.

Tires $30.00, CS-170 servo $90.00, bec $20.00, chassis & get everything low???$$$(used ff4 or gatekeeper). Delrin homemade links $10.00.

In your case?
First up, tires- I run Rovers (white dot compound) and love 'em.

Then shocks- in your case either shorter ones, or move the top mounting points a lot closer together, or at the very minimum run the absolute softest springs you can get. That chassis' just sitting way too high for any good sidehill/off camber stability.

my first mod was aluminum steering linkage $18

then a tray on the front axle for the battery to sit right next to the servo $Free

You've alread got my next step, AL links

I'm right now stalled in the middle of doing the XR mod until I can get my hands on some OD gears for the front. But I don't think after you take care of tires and suspension, that the XR mod will still fit under the $200 limit.

Just get tires, a servo, and a lipo (and a charger if you don't have one). If you have anything left over spend it as the truck breaks, cause it will break. Over and over again. Once you get a strong servo with a metal tie rod (connects the two front wheels, allows steering) the knuckles and chubs will break if they are plastic.

Perhaps i did not explain correctly.

200bucks is the start investment amount.
was curius were to start swapping.

hot rover, weels, fx-r, 35t Hw tekin, CCbec, savöx Ti-20kg servo
that is what i have and then 200bucks or so.

so the most bang for 200$ was perhaps a better explanation.

were woud you start?

thanks again.

if you have tires and all good electronics start on the drive train. aluminum knuckles and c-hubs, rear lock outs, front cvd's, and all robinson racing metal trans gears, and some MIP drive lines. over $200 but just do it as they break.

I'd have to agree here, except for the rear aluminum lockouts. I know they can break, but it's rare. If you break one, then replace with aluminum, but save your money until that happens, which I doubt it will.

Everything else is what I would also do.

Okay, that changes it up, but not a lot.

IMO...

Mod 1: battery mounting plate on front axle

Mod 2: Lower your suspension 'til the upper links are just about parallel with the ground.

Mod 3: Practice. Learn to drive your rig

Mod 4: XR steering mod

Mod 5: While you have the axle apart might as well see if you can find some OD gears to throw in there

Mod 6: UD gears in the rear axle

1. Chassis w/ derin or Ti links. and shocks.
2. Xr steering mod
3. over and under drive gears
4. Steel output gears in the tranny, with steel or alum gear upgrade.

These first three will put it over the top! You will not believe the difference.

Pratice all the time and inbetween each mod.

Just wait for it to break. It will break.

Wow did anyone mention tossing the skid

In my book:
Get a star

Get rid of the drive shafts. I use traxxas half shafts with good results, i get a pack of 6 and in the beatings of my car I think ive blown 2 and replacement was quick and easy. And cheap

Keep your eyes out for used Rovers, they maybe used but they sill work

Get some adjustable offset rims, they are handy and let you adjust the car easily and are a lot nicer quality than the stock ones (peek around, some people have good deals) but those can wait, getting good tires is more important

Delrin links are easily made and besides tires makes a huge difference crawling. Ill never forget my first time out on Delrin links, I swore the car glided over stuff that would normally hang it up. It was amazing I got a heap load of Delrin in my shop so I could prob chop off a few pieces for you

Get rid of the stock chassis... it is the worst thing ever created anything is an improvement over it. Even a simple homebrew design can do better, again look around, you never know what someone is getting rid of for cheap

That and just get some drive time in on the car, make a simple course and start simple and go from there. Don't expect it to crawl over your car out of the box but making decisive decisions on upgrades saves you $ in the end and lets you really see what made the big difference overall anyways .

And don't be scared to ask questions. We don't bite THAT hard
